Job Title: Civil Project EngineerJob Description

The Civil Project Engineer designs and manages a wide range of land development projects, including educational, residential, industrial, commercial, medical, and institutional developments throughout Michigan. The role combines technical civil engineering design with project management responsibilities and close collaboration with architects, developers, and construction teams. Responsibilities
  • Design and manage land development projects across educational, residential, industrial, commercial, medical, and institutional sectors in Michigan.
  • Prepare and review civil engineering plans, including site plans, grading plans, drainage plans, and utility layouts for various development projects.
  • Perform civil design tasks using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including site design, drafting, and preparation of construction documents.
  • Develop and refine site layouts for land development projects, ensuring compliance with municipal codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Design stormwater management systems, including drainage and wastewater systems, to support site development and municipal engineering requirements.
  • Coordinate with architects, developers, and construction teams to ensure that civil design elements integrate seamlessly with overall project objectives.
  • Support municipal engineering projects and civil site design efforts, including preparation of engineering reports, calculations, and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in construction-related activities such as reviewing shop drawings, responding to requests for information, and supporting field personnel with design clarifications.
  • Manage project tasks, schedules, and deliverables to meet client expectations and internal deadlines.
  • Communicate project status, design decisions, and technical information clearly and professionally to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to quality control and quality assurance processes by reviewing drawings, calculations, and design documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in mentoring and supporting junior staff with drafting, CAD work, and basic design tasks as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or active progress toward licensure.
  • At least 4 years of civil engineering experience, with 5+ years of experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design and drafting.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering design for land development projects, including site design, grading, drainage, and utility layout.
  • Experience with stormwater management design, including drainage and wastewater systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in site development and civil site projects, including preparation of site plans and construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of municipal engineering standards, regulations, and permitting processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD drafting and civil engineering design tools, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, developers, construction teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Solid project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr.
