Position: Project Engineer

Location: Merrillville, IN (on site)

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Engineer to join our growing Road Group. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of complex and high-profile transportation projects while mentoring junior staff and collaborating across disciplines.

As a Project Engineer, you will perform technical design work, manage project components, and serve as a key liaison between clients and internal teams. The ideal candidate is self-driven, has a strong background in roadway and transportation engineering, and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with at least 8 years of related experience.

Responsibilities
  • Perform conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design for transportation and roadway projects.
  • Develop and oversee geometric design, maintenance of traffic, drainage, and signing/pavement marking plans.
  • Lead or support the preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Develop and review 3D roadway models and related digital design deliverables.
  • Provide technical mentorship and support to junior engineers and design technicians.
  • Ensure quality control and compliance with applicable design standards and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients, subconsultants, and internal teams on project coordination and technical issues.
  • Contribute to project scoping, scheduling, and proposal development as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE required).
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in roadway or transportation design.
  • Strong technical skills and proficiency with design software such as MicroStation, Geopak, and/or OpenRoads Designer.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and DOT roadway design standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
