Job description

SMS is seeking a candidate with experience of deploying and troubleshooting IP network switching equipment. Candidate must be able to configure and maintain layer 2 and layer 3 network hardware, and implement network security using network authentication and management tools. This position requires strong communication, collaboration, as well as time and project management skills. Additionally, qualified candidates require documentation of problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks; participation in testing and evaluation of new technologies; and adherence to policies and procedures for change and incident management. This is a position that focuses on customer-facing (production) infrastructure.

· Develop LAN/WAN network designs.

· Demonstrated knowledge and hands on experience with LAN/WAN setup, TCP/IP protocol, routing/switching configurations.

· Experience with Cisco and/or Juniper routing/switching platforms and operating systems.

· Experience in implementing converged networks to include VoIP and VTC utilizing QoS.

· Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues such as hardware failures, WAN/LAN connectivity, and layer 2 and 3 configuration problems.

· Knowledge of network authentication methods and technologies, experience with Cisco ISE or similar is preferred.

· Strong computer skills and the ability to generate innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or problems.

· Prior experience with enterprise incident and change management systems.

· VoIP component configuration and deployment experience is a plus.

· Strong understanding of secure network architectures and encryption technologies preferred.

· General knowledge of systems and enterprise storage technologies.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to work independently without direct supervision.


Required Qualifications/Certifications:

· Individual must have high degree of skills with the MS Office toolsets.

· Applicant must possess refined critical thinking skills, should be a self-starter, be diplomatic, multi-task capable, adaptive to a dynamic environment, dependable and reliable.

· Prior experience working with government networks is preferred.

· Valid Driver’s License Required

· This position may require occasional after-hours call-ins for emergency response. Employees in this role must provide a personal cell phone number for contact purposes.

· Active DoD Secret clearance required
