Job description

Juniper Network Engineer

Location: Austin, TX Duration: 12 Months

Austin Energy seeks an IT Network Consultant to provide overall network engineering and support for our Operations Technology (OT) systems located at Austin Energy’s Power Plants. OT systems can include Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) as well as associated data historians (OSI PI). The consultant’s job duties include designing, documenting, and building OT network solutions; maintaining various network components; using experience to recommend new technologies and solutions – all in adherence with NERC/CIP standards. This position requires on-call support for 24-hour utility operations, travel to different sites to survey, troubleshoot, and integrate network solutions.

The primary duties of the position:

  • Operation and administration of OSIsoft Plant Information system/historian
  • Firewall configuration and rule set programming with Juniper Network equipment or equal
  • Protocol analysis using one or more network analyzers
  • Knowledge of Operating Systems, such as Microsoft and Unix, Linux and Networking equipment
  • Knowledge of installing, maintaining, and using unshielded twisted pair and fiber optic cable technologies.
  • TCP/IP network architecture
  • Industrial Firewall management
  • Industrial Managed switch operation
  • Offline Microsoft Operating System Patch Management
  • Experience with RS232 communication Protocol
  • Act as SME for related NERC/CIP compliance and audit efforts
  • Provide collaborative input to infrastructure planning and design
  • Present findings to key stakeholders
  • Travel to and from different work sites to perform work, as needed
  • Disaster Recovery Method Planning and Implementation (including Bare Metal, RAID, etc.)

Worker Skills and Qualifications Minimum Requirements:

  • 6-10 years - Experience in administration of routing and switching, storage environments, and firewalls
  • Preferred: Years Skills/Experience
  • 3+ years - JUNOS Experience – Juniper Certifications, or have worked on Juniper Equipment
  • 3+ years - OSI PI Historian Experience
  • 3+ years - Experience in NERC/CIP compliance with concentration on documentation and audit-ability
  • 5+ years - Experience with Disaster Recovery Method Planning and Implementation (including Bare Metal, RAID, etc.)
  • 3+ years - Operations Technology network experience – networking various controls systems (distributed controls systems, PLC’s, Historians, etc.)
  • Desired certifications: Microsoft Certified System Administrator or equal CISCO Certified Network - CCNA, CCNP, LPIC-3, with additional Linux and/or IT security Certifications
