Job description

Overview

The Merchandise Planning Analyst leads and coordinates key planning, forecasting and reporting processes, and analyzes business initiatives to identify opportunities and risks as well as drive business results for the Merchandising department. The Merch. Planning Analyst is expected to utilize an analytical/financial background to provide insights and recommendations to cross-functional business partners. This role will partner with the Merchandising leadership team to improve operational and financial performance.

Overview of Responsibilities Planning and Budgeting
  • Assists in the development of long-range financial planning and annual budgets for Sprouts. Builds financial models to support accurate planning and influence decision making.
Forecasting
  • Supports forecast processes and summarizes forecast highlights, business drivers, risk and opportunities for merchandising department.
Analysis
  • Provides analysis and recommendations to help merchants achieve department revenue and profit goals.
  • Regular reviews of pricing, promotion, and assortment to help support decision making.
  • Pre‑post analysis of merchandising tests.
Reporting
  • Prepare weekly and monthly presentations for Merchandising leadership.
  • Weekly promotional effectiveness reporting and ad planning.
  • Reporting on key business metrics, including department/category performance analysis.
  • Partner with the business to understand variances to forecast and budget and to relay ongoing implications.
Other
  • Serves as project lead for ad hoc projects by managing objectives, deliverables, and key milestones with minimal supervision.
  • Supports manager in the coaching and development of junior team members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in financial analysis is required.
  • Retail or Grocery industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience with budgeting, planning, modeling, and forecasting systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical and decision‑making skills, and ability to work on cross‑functional teams.
