Job description

Pay: $28 - $35 per hour, based on experience.

The Role

As a Designer 2 - Field Installation, you will lead the detailed drafting and design of piping systems for field-fabricated projects, producing accurate isometric drawings, installation documentation, and fabrication support materials. You'll apply advanced knowledge of piping codes, layout standards, constructability, and installation requirements to independently manage multiple projects while ensuring designs meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and field conditions.

Working closely with project managers, engineers, senior designers, and field teams, you'll help deliver high-quality, code-compliant solutions that support efficient installation and long-term system reliability. This role also provides opportunities to mentor junior designers, contribute to complex project execution, and continually expand your technical expertise through collaboration and ongoing learning, making you a key contributor to the success of every project.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and produce detailed piping layouts, isometric drawings, installation documents, and supporting design packages for field-fabricated projects.
  • Manage multiple piping design projects simultaneously, ensuring designs are accurate, code-compliant, and delivered on schedule.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to resolve design challenges, incorporate field feedback, and support successful project execution.
  • Apply expertise in piping codes, industry standards, and constructability to develop safe, efficient, and reliable installation solutions.
  • Mentor and support junior designers by providing technical guidance, reviewing work, and promoting best practices in piping design.
  • Drive continuous improvement by enhancing design standards, workflows, documentation, and staying current on industry codes and emerging technologies.
  • Partner with other engineering and product teams to provide design support, share technical knowledge, and contribute to cross-functional project success.
Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Design, Drafting & Design, or Engineering Technology, preferred
  • Autodesk Revit – 3 years minimum, no older than 4 releases from current release, required
  • Navisworks – 1 year minimum, required
  • Prior mechanical, field-fabricated piping or system design experience, required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, required
  • Prior experience with BOM creation, revision control, required.
  • AutoCAD / Plant 3D – 2 years minimum, recommended
  • Knowledge of custom-fabricated component estimating, preferred
  • Basic Epicor or other ERP experience, preferred
  • Advanced CAD proficiency in Revit for piping systems, with the ability to produce accurate 3D models and installation documentation
  • Familiarity with Plant 3D and AutoCAD for detailed drafting and coordination
  • Ability to use Navisworks for model coordination, clash detection, and installation planning
