What is a junior DevOps?

Junior DevOps engineers are entry-level professionals who support the development and operations teams by automating processes, managing infrastructure, and ensuring continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. They typically work under the guidance of senior DevOps engineers to learn best practices for coding, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Their responsibilities may include writing scripts, maintaining cloud environments, and collaborating with developers to streamline workflows. Junior DevOps roles are a great starting point for those interested in combining software development with IT operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior DevOps?

To thrive as a Junior DevOps, you need foundational knowledge of software development, system administration, and scripting languages like Python or Bash, usually backed by a relevant degree or technical certification. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), CI/CD tools (such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is typically required. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and willingness to learn make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure seamless development-to-deployment workflows, system reliability, and effective teamwork in dynamic tech environments.

What are some common challenges faced by junior DevOps professionals when first joining a team?

Junior DevOps professionals often encounter challenges such as adapting to a fast-paced environment where automation and deployment processes are critical. Learning to work with various tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, containerization) and understanding existing infrastructure can be overwhelming at first. Collaborating closely with development, QA, and IT operations teams requires strong communication and problem-solving skills. However, with mentorship and hands-on experience, most juniors quickly become proficient and play a key role in streamlining workflows.

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join one of our international banking clients under a hybrid work model. In this role, you will play a key part in transforming, consolidating, and taking full ownership of their CI/CD infrastructure across multiple departments and applications.

This is a highly specialized, hands-on engineering role where you will act as GitHub administrator, while ensuring seamless cloud integration. You will be solving complex deployment challenges-particularly within the .NET ecosystem-and driving automation, infrastructure modernization, and standardization across platforms.

Responsibilities
  • CI/CD Automation & Consolidation: Design, build, optimize, and maintain highly reliable CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions across various banking departments and application types.

  • Platform Administration: Act as the primary owner and administrator of the GitHub platform, ensuring governance, security, and operational best practices organization-wide.

  • .NET Ecosystem Focus: Build and standardize specialized pipelines tailored for .NET applications, streamlining the deployment process.

  • Infrastructure as Code: Provision, maintain, and improve cloud infrastructure using modern IaC practices to automate banking workloads.

  • Technical Ownership & Leadership: Take the reins of the current CI/CD infrastructure, bringing order to disparate pipeline types and acting as a mentor/guide for junior team members.

Requirements
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Release Engineering, or Cloud Infrastructure Architecture.

  • GitHub Actions Expertise: Exceptional hands-on experience creating, managing, and troubleshooting complex CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

  • Platform Administration: Proven experience in GitHub platform administration (managing permissions, security policies, runners, and enterprise features).

  • Application Stack: Strong, practical experience building pipelines specifically for .NET applications.

  • Cloud Ecosystems: Solid experience working with cloud providers, with a strong preference for Azure (or alternatively AWS).

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proven experience provisioning and managing infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.

  • Containers & Orchestration: Practical, hands-on experience working with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.

  • Certifications: Expected to have GitHub Foundations and GitHub DevOps Pipelines certifications.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with advanced monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Datadog, Grafana, etc.).

  • Knowledge of banking compliance, security standards, and secrets management.

  • Official certifications in Azure (e.g., DevOps Engineer Expert) or AWS.

Benefits
  • Hybrid work model

  • Long-term international projects.

  • Opportunity to work with modern cloud-native technologies.

  • High-impact role with strong technical ownership.

  • Collaborative international team with experienced engineering leadership.

  • Continuous learning and professional growth opportunities.
