Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and proactive Junior Product Design Engineer to join our growing team. This role is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience in product design and development while working alongside experienced engineering professionals. The Junior Product Design Engineer will support the development, prototyping, and refinement of innovative products, initially assisting with existing product lines before transitioning into ownership of new design projects. This role also serves as a bridge between engineering and business functions by providing product management support and technical expertise to internal customer service and sales teams.

Essential Functions
  • Design & Development: Create and modify 2D/3D mechanical designs and detailed engineering drawings, primarily using SolidWorks.
  • Mentorship & Growth: Actively learn from senior staff to develop skills in design for manufacturability (DFM), material selection, and prototyping, and overall product life cycle management.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Assist in building and testing physical prototypes and vendor samples to validate designs.
  • Product Lifecycle Support: Assist with Bill of Materials (BOM), design reviews, project documentation, and maintaining engineering standards.
  • Customer/Sales Support: Act as technical support for sales teams and analyze customer service data to identify product improvements, warranty solutions, and "pain points".
  • Innovation: Brainstorm new ideas for rugged, education-focused accessories and hardware that includes soft goods, hard cases, charging solutions, and other innovative products to come.
  • All other work as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of product design, mechanical engineering, or related engineering principles through professional experience, internships, or academic projects
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical teams, including Sales and Customer Service
  • Passion for innovation and developing creative, user-focused products
  • Experience with or ability to learn CAD software; proficiency in SolidWorks preferred
  • Familiarity with additional design software, including other CAD platforms or Adobe Creative Suite, is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
