What is a job coach?
What do job coaches do?
A job coach helps disabled people build job skills and find employment. As a job coach, your duties include training the employee to be successful and independent and talking to the employer about accommodations they must make in the workplace. Whether your client is physically or mentally disabled, you must help them develop skills that work around their limitations. You need at least a bachelor’s degree to become a job coach.

How does a job coach typically support clients with varying abilities in the workplace?
What is the difference between Job Coach vs Career Counselor?
| Aspect | Job Coach | Career Counselor |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically requires certifications like CPR, coaching certifications, or industry-specific training | Usually holds degrees in counseling, psychology, or related fields, with licensure |
| Work Environment | Often works one-on-one with clients, in workplaces or training centers | Works in schools, counseling centers, or private practices, providing guidance on career paths |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Common in employment agencies, vocational training, and corporate settings | Found in educational institutions, mental health clinics, and career development organizations |
While both Job Coaches and Career Counselors assist individuals with employment goals, Job Coaches focus on skill development and job placement support, often in real-time work settings. Career Counselors provide broader career guidance, including assessments and long-term planning. Understanding these differences helps individuals choose the right support for their career journey.
