Job description

CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Lufkin in East Texas is seeking a Gastroenterologist with ERCP capability for a high-impact inpatient-only locum assignment. This is a true hospital-based role: no clinic, no outpatient, just comprehensive GI consults, rounds, and procedures driven from in-house and ER consults.

Practice Setting
  • Inpatient only

  • 1 FTE need

  • Rounding required

  • Hospitalist service handles admissions

  • Typical caseload: Up to ~10 inpatients/day + procedures

  • Case types: GI bleeds, abdominal pain, SBO, food bolus, ulcers, gastritis, carcinoma diagnosis (no treatment)


Required Skills & Procedures
  • Standard GI procedures (EGD, colonoscopy)

  • ERCP – Required

  • EUS – Not required

  • Conscious sedation preferred; anesthesia backup available

  • Supported by GI-trained endoscopy nursing staff


EMR
  • Currently Paragon

  • Transitioning to Epic later in 2026


Travel & Lodging

  • 30–60 days

  • Emergency privileges available for clean files

  • January start allows for standard credentialing


❗ Submission Requirements (Must be addressed)
  • Board Certification in Gastroenterology – Highly Preferred (BE accepted)

  • Active TX License – We will help with IMLC Licensure !

  • ACLS – Required- We will help with life support certification if needed. 

  • Clean malpractice/background – Highly Preferred

  • List how many weeks per month you can cover

  • No significant malpractice history or board actions (deal breakers)
