Job description

About the job Remote | Audio Engineer (French Speech & TTS) - Up to $45/hour
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced audio engineers with strong expertise in speech editing, voice-recording quality assurance, and text-to-speech (TTS) audio workflows, specifically for French-language content.
This role focuses on preparing and evaluating high-quality French speech audio for machine-learning and voice-AI applications. Selected professionals will edit, clean, and quality-check large volumes of voice recordings while ensuring consistency, naturalness, pronunciation accuracy, and compliance with technical audio specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Speech Audio Editing & Restoration

  • Edit and process French voice recordings for speech and TTS applications
  • Perform silence trimming, breath reduction or removal, de-clicking, de-essing, and noise reduction
  • Identify and correct clipping, distortion, background noise, and unwanted audio artifacts
  • Balance loudness and recording levels across large batches of speech audio
  • Maintain consistent audio quality across structured production workflows
French Speech Quality Evaluation
  • Evaluate French recordings for pronunciation accuracy, fluency, and naturalness
  • Identify unnatural delivery, articulation issues, or inconsistencies in spoken French
  • Assess speech quality using native or near-native listening judgement
  • Distinguish between acceptable human speech variation and issues that may affect synthetic-voice training
  • Provide precise quality feedback on recordings that require correction or rework
TTS & Voice AI Audio Quality
  • Prepare audio that meets technical requirements for TTS and speech-AI training pipelines
  • Review recordings for consistency with dataset and model-training specifications
  • Assess audio quality across voice-talent recordings and structured speech datasets
  • Support quality-control workflows designed for large-scale machine-learning datasets
  • Identify technical or performance issues that could reduce the usefulness of training audio
Audio QA & Dataset Workflows
  • Conduct systematic quality-assurance reviews across high-volume audio batches
  • Apply consistent evaluation standards throughout repetitive production workflows
  • Flag technical defects, inconsistencies, and recording-quality issues
  • Maintain accuracy and throughput while working across large datasets
  • Contribute to reliable audio QA, labelling, and evaluation processes
Ideal Profile
  • Native or near-native French fluency with strong listening intuition for pronunciation, rhythm, and natural speech
  • Professional experience editing speech, dialogue, voice-over, or other voice recordings
  • Strong understanding of speech-audio quality standards and common recording defects
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as iZotope RX, Pro Tools, or comparable audio-editing and restoration software
  • Ability to identify and correct artifacts, inconsistencies, noise, clipping, and other technical audio issues
  • Strong critical-listening skills and attention to fine audio detail
  • Experience working with high-volume audio datasets or structured production workflows
  • Experience with TTS, speech ML, voice AI, dataset creation, or audio annotation is highly valued
  • Familiarity with audio QA pipelines, labelling, or evaluation processes is advantageous
  • Experience editing or directing French voice-talent recordings is particularly relevant
  • Ability to balance production speed with consistent quality across repetitive, high-precision work
Engagement Details
  • Fully remote independent contractor engagement
  • Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
  • Compensation: $40-$45/hour
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
  • H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement
  • Strong contributors may be considered for additional speech-audio and voice-AI projects
