Additionally, clear communication with stakeholders and thorough testing are essential to identify and resolve integration issues before full deployment.

What is IT integration?

IT integration refers to the process of connecting different information technology systems, software applications, and data sources within an organization to work seamlessly together. This often involves linking systems with different functions—such as databases, cloud services, and legacy software—so they can share information and streamline business processes. Effective IT integration can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enable faster decision-making by ensuring that critical data flows smoothly across the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT Integration Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IT Integration Specialist, you need a strong understanding of systems architecture, software development, and experience with integration methodologies, often supported by a degree in computer science or IT. Familiarity with tools such as middleware platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Dell Boomi), APIs, and certifications like ITIL or relevant vendor credentials is common. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing complex integrations and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. The M&A IT Integration Lead is responsible for coordinating and executing IT integration activities across a consistent pipeline of acquisitions. This role focuses on driving successful integration of acquired companies into the organization’s IT environment, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migrations. This is a hands-on coordination and execution role. The Lead will work closely with internal IT teams, external partners, and acquired company stakeholders to ensure integrations are delivered on time, with minimal disruption to business operations. The role requires a high degree of independent judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent integrations in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead day-to-day execution of IT integration workstreams across multiple acquisitions. Develop and manage integration plans, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring alignment across all stakeholders and successful delivery against defined objectives

  • Coordinate migration of file data into the organization’s standard platform (Box), including migration of on-premise file shares and evaluation of SharePoint and OneDrive content. Partner with stakeholders to determine appropriate migration approaches, recognizing technical and practical limitations (particularly with SharePoint) and ensuring critical business data is retained and accessible
  • Serve as the primary IT point of contact during integrations. Coordinate across infrastructure, security, applications, and business teams to manage dependencies, resolve issues, and maintain alignment throughout the integration lifecycle
  • Plan and execute cutover activities, including onsite coordination when required. Lead post-integration support, ensuring a smooth transition for end users and timely resolution of issues
  • Execute and refine IT integration playbooks and standards to improve consistency and scalability. Identify opportunities to enhance integration processes, tooling, and documentation over time
  • Support IT due diligence efforts as needed by assessing acquired company environments and identifying risks, dependencies, and integration considerations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-10+ years of experience in IT, with direct experience supporting or leading M&A IT integrations
  • Hands-on experience leading Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migrations in production environments
  • Strong knowledge of Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
  • Experience using migration tools (e.g., BitTitan, Quest, ShareGate, or similar)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience coordinating across cross-functional teams without direct authority
