They often work under the supervision of senior IT staff to ensure the smooth operation of technology infrastructure. Common tasks include installing software, setting up devices, and helping users resolve technical problems. This role is a great starting point for a career in information technology, offering valuable hands-on experience and opportunities for advancement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT associate?

To thrive as an IT Associate, you typically need a solid understanding of computer systems, networking, troubleshooting, and a relevant degree or certification such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified IT Professional. Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), ticketing systems, and remote support tools is commonly required. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help IT Associates excel in supporting end-users and collaborating with teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining smooth business operations and quickly resolving technical issues.

Job description

We create possibilities that move life and commerce forward Welcome to Manhattan. Every day, our supply chain commerce technology connects two billion people to 20 billion consumer choices. In the warehouse, on the road and in the store, we make what was once impossible, possible. If you want to tackle complex problems and redefine markets, you’ve come to the right place.

The Enterprise Architect is a business-minded technology leader within ETS responsible for defining the enterprise technology direction that enables Manhattan’s business strategy and transformation priorities across multiple Internal departments - including Marketing, Sales, CXO, HR, R&D, and ETS. This role works across internal business functions and ETS teams to understand strategic needs, identify enterprise technology implications, define target-state architectures, establish architectural principles and standards, and guide major technology decisions across platforms, applications, integrations, data, and infrastructure. The Enterprise Architect should consistently ask: “How do we meet today’s business need in a way that also makes Manhattan’s technology ecosystem simpler, more reusable, and better positioned for the future?” This is a pragmatic and technically credible role which. The Enterprise Architect is expected to actively participate in strategy, solutioning, architecture, and major transformation initiatives—not operate solely as a governance or documentation function.

Responsibilities

Define and evolve enterprise technology strategy, target architecture, and technology roadmaps aligned to Manhattan’s business strategy. Establish and communicate architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, integration patterns, and reusable solution patterns. Define the strategic role, boundaries, and evolution of major enterprise platforms and technologies. Partner with Business Technology Leads and business stakeholders to translate business strategy and transformation priorities into enterprise technology capabilities and direction. Lead architecture, solutioning, and brainstorming sessions for complex cross-functional and cross-platform opportunities. Evaluate solution and technology alternatives based on business value, strategic fit, feasibility, cost, scalability, security, and long-term maintainability. Guide major initiatives and partner with Solution Architects to ensure designs align with enterprise architecture direction while enabling effective delivery. Identify opportunities to simplify the technology landscape, reduce technical debt, consolidate overlapping capabilities, and increase reuse. Perform targeted hands-on analysis, prototyping, and technical validation to evaluate emerging technologies, validate approaches, and reduce solution risk. Partner with Platform Owners, Cyber Security, Technology Operations, and Engineering to ensure architecture supports platform health, security, resilience, scalability, observability, and automation. Provide technical leadership, architectural guidance, and mentorship across onshore and offshore teams while continuously improving ETS architecture practices and decision-making.

Minimum requirements

10+ years of progressive technology experience, including significant experience in solution and/or enterprise architecture. Demonstrated ability to lead technical and business stakeholders through complex solution decisions and tradeoffs. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex enterprise application, integration, and data architectures. Experience leading architecture and technology strategy across multiple business functions and platforms. Strong experience developing technology strategies, target architectures, roadmaps, standards, and reusable architecture patterns. Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams and mentoring technical staff. Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and executive communication skills. Ability to influence across organizational boundaries without relying on direct authority. Demonstrated ability to balance long-term architectural direction with immediate business priorities in a fast-paced environment. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred skills and experience

Proven track record supporting major enterprise transformation initiatives spanning functions such as Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Services, Finance, and Operations. Broad expertise across enterprise applications, cloud platforms, integration, APIs, event-driven architecture, data architecture, security, infrastructure, and modern software engineering. Experience creating prototypes or proofs of concept to validate strategic architecture decisions. Experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Workday HR, Workday Financials, ServiceNow, MuleSoft, Power BI, SQL Server or comparable technologies. Experience with modern data and analytics technologies, including cloud data platforms, semantic models, analytics, and AI-enabled architectures. Understanding of modern CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, observability, and infrastructure/platform automation. Experience evaluating SaaS, cloud-native, commercial, and custom-built technology solutions. Familiarity with Agile and iterative delivery methodologies.

Characteristics of the Ideal Candidate

Business-minded – starts with the business outcome rather than the technology. Enterprise-oriented – optimizes for Manhattan rather than an individual platform or project. Technically credible – can engage deeply with architects and engineers when required. Hands-on when it matters – expected to prototype, analyze, and take on Solution Architecture responsibilities as needed Pragmatic – balances strategic direction with the realities of delivery. Influential – creates alignment across teams without creating unnecessary governance. Curious – continually evaluates better ways to solve enterprise problems. Simplification-oriented – looks for opportunities to reduce complexity and increase reuse.

Committed to diversity and inclusion

At Manhattan, it’s about more than just the work. From cultural celebrations to interest groups to volunteer opportunities, your true self is always welcome here.
