Job description

Job Summary:
The Infrastructure Engineer is a senior-level position responsible for the strategic planning, design, implementation, and support of complex IT infrastructure systems. This role requires extensive expertise in enterprise networking, storage, compute, and virtualization technologies. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for ensuring overall system performance, capacity planning, infrastructure availability, and business continuity. They are dedicated to staying up to date with new technology advancements and recommending ways to leverage these technologies for the benefit of the organization. They play a crucial role in identifying areas for improvement, problem resolution, and the education of support and operations personnel. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer also provides leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the infrastructure team.
Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Customer Service
    • Understands department priorities and objectives and actively contributes to achieving them.
    • Provides periodic after-hours on-call support and responds to system failures.
    • Creates detailed documentation, including knowledge tips for the use, and troubleshooting, of IT infrastructure.
  • Communication
    • Keeps peers, end users, suppliers, and leadership informed of trends, significant problems, unexpected delays, and changes to the environment.
    • Informs customers and project team members of progress on problems and work assignments.
    • Ensures appropriate management is informed of problems or issues impacting groups of users.
    • Educates and mentors technical staff on troubleshooting and maintaining systems.
  • Infrastructure Support
    • Serves as the primary technical resource for the IT infrastructure environment, including hardware, storage systems, software, and monitoring tools.
    • Produces clear technical design documentation and diagrams outlining existing and proposed technical architectures and procedures.
    • Administers backup systems, maintaining reports and statistics, and restoring data/systems as required.
    • Ensures seamless interconnection and proactive support between IT infrastructure services, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.
  • Problem Analysis, Resolution, and Prevention
    • Manages day-to-day operations of the IT infrastructure environment, monitoring performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.
    • Maintains records of downtime and equipment inventory. Applies revisions and updates as appropriate.
    • Performs troubleshooting and leads problem-solving efforts, often involving external vendors and support personnel.
    • Serves as an escalation resource for analyzing and resolving support issues.
    • Ensures high availability and acceptable performance levels of mission-critical IT infrastructure services.
  • Project Execution
    • Completes assigned tasks on time and within budget or rectifies unrealistic deadlines and tasks.
    • Develops implementation plans, custom scripts, and testing procedures for new IT infrastructure components. Trains technical staff on their usage.
    • Evaluates, installs, tests, and debugs enterprise infrastructure services, including hardware, software, and services.
    • Creates and maintains up-to-date documentation on all existing and new IT infrastructure components and configurations.
  • Training and Other
    • Develops a sound understanding of IT operations, applications, systems, and related business processes and procedures.
    • Stays current with technological developments in IT infrastructure and recommends ways to leverage new technology.
    • Performs additional related duties as requested or required.

Requirements:
  • Education: Associate degree, or a bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Experience: Five or more years of experience in an IT infrastructure environment, with a focus on complex enterprise technologies, such as advanced networking, firewall, virtualization, storage, load balancing, and backups.
  • Certifications: Advanced certifications in networking, security, or storage are preferred.
  • Other: Valid Driver's License required.
