Job description

Position Title: Director of Special Education (Furqaan Academy for Exceptional Children)

We are seeking a dedicated full-time Director of Special Education to join our team. The Director of Special Education is responsible for leading and managing all special education services in compliance with federal and state regulations and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of special education law, finance, program supervision, and instructional methods for diverse learners.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop, and manage the school’s special education programs and related services in alignment with Islamic principles and the school’s mission.
  • Develop, demonstrate and foster an attitude of continuous improvement within the school community
  • Build and nurture a professional and positive and achievement oriented working environment
  • Propose yearly financial budget
  • Seek grants and funding opportunities to enhance services.
  • Establish or enhance and implement school procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, parents, volunteers and the community at large
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations including IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and ISBE regulations.
  • Lead development of the school’s curriculum and promote technological integration.
  • Ensure teaching strategies meet diverse needs of Students with disabilities.
  • Assist in conducting formal and informal staff evaluations during the school year.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development to staff
  • Establish and maintain a routine form of communication with all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with families, educators and district representatives.
  • Collaborate with Principals to conduct and lead IEP meetings and ensure proper implementation and parent involvement.
  • Assess school improvement plans every year.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • ValidIllinois Professional Educator License (PEL)with aDirector of Special Education endorsement, as required by 23 Ill. Adm. Code 25.365.
