Job description

IPM supervisors' primary responsibility is to oversee all IPM related aspects of the facility and report to Head grower, GM. In this function, the primary focus is on preventing pest and disease problems from happening by implementing BCAs as a first line of defense, and where necessary use other crop protection products.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Daily supervision of the scouts monitoring and scouting of pest and disease in the Greenhouse.
  • Attend weekly IPM meetings with Mastronardi's IPM team members organized by Corporate IPM management team.
  • Execution of company IPM SOPs with the IPM.
  • IPDM reporting to GM, Head Grower, and corporate IPM Director and Manager
  • Supervision of proper management and distribution of MarcroBCAs
  • Management of adequate pollination levels (bumble pollination levels checked daily)
  • Maintaining up-to-date records including updating apps and software used for IPM data processing.
  • Planning, organizing, training and assigning scout duties as required.
  • Planning the application of MicroBCAs and conventional crop protection products. This includes following approval processes by Head Grower and GM
  • Place weekly orders of MacroBCAs according with the weekly pest pressure of the greenhouse.
  • Monitor IPM spending and reporting (budget vs actual).
  • Maintain and manage MicroBCA and conventional crop protection product stock levels and storage as indicated by management.
  • Keep up to date with most relevant information available around IPDM related to the crop grown.
  • Work in conjunction with the Food safety department to get approval for new crop protection products.
  • Food Safety Paperwork.
  • Knowledge of all Food Safety protocols.

Education/Background Requirements:
  • Degree or diploma in Horticulture/Agriculture/Entomology preferred.
  • Previous experience with IPM in a greenhouse environment.
  • 3 Years' experience of managing a team of 3 or more
  • Ability to manage teams under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven leadership experience in a Team setting
  • Excellent critical and analytical skills

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Communicate effectively and professionally, both oral and written with the ability to foster positive relationships
  • Proficient with MS Office Products
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with competing demands while considering the full business impact
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Knowledgeable of hydroponic vegetable pests and disease identification.
  • Spray license required.
  • Knowledge of chemical and pesticide management.
  • Horticultural background knowledge and knowledge of hydroponic greenhouse operations.

Working Conditions:
  • Position requires sitting, standing, walking and bending on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Limited kneeling, squatting and crawling required.
  • Greenhouse environment where the temperature may reach 70°F and background noise approaches 70 dcbs.
