Greenhouse Production Leader & Grower

Job Description Summary

At Groovy Plants Ranch, the Greenhouse Production Leader & Grower oversees the entire growing division, cultivation operations, and facility production workflow. This role is responsible for running a capable production team, driving production and crop scheduling, directing comprehensive IPM programs, and maintaining optimal plant health from propagation to retail move-out. By coordinating line labor, environmental controls, facility maintenance, and inventory needs, the Leader ensures consistent production flow and high crop quality to meet retail and e-commerce demands.

Job Duties & Core Responsibilities

Production & Crop Scheduling

  • Oversee and maintain comprehensive crop scheduling and production calendars, managing planting dates, pulling, crop rotations, and timely move-outs to retail or .COM holding areas.
  • Run and direct a capable production team, clearly communicating tasks and daily goals across the production line to ensure work is completed effectively, accurately, and on time.
  • Coordinate closely with retail and .COM management to provide timely notice when a new product is ready for sale.
  • Maintain live inventory tracking for pots, soil, trays, plugs, cuttings, seeds, and production supplies to ensure smooth operations.
  • Manage and maintain the crop loss tracker to evaluate yield trends, gather actionable data, and minimize waste.

Growing Operations & Plant Cultivation

  • Direct and oversee all growing aspects of the business, including propagation, potting, trimming, watering schedules, and the preservation of in-house stock.
  • Lead substrate improvement initiatives, including regular pH/EC testing, soil preparation techniques, and custom mix development.
  • Apply fertilizers and approved crop treatments as directed to optimize plant vitality and growth rates.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

  • Coordinate, develop, and manage the year-round IPM program across all growing blocks, mother stock, and incoming plant material.
  • Plan and execute spray schedules, biological treatments, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for proactive pest and disease control.
  • Conduct routine scouting to detect plant health issues early, promptly isolating or culling damaged and infested material from production and retail areas.

Team Leadership & Facility Maintenance

  • Guide, train, and supervise growing and production staff, fostering high standards of plant husbandry, quality control, and workplace safety.
  • Oversee greenhouse facility maintenance, ensuring all growing structures, equipment, and production workspaces remain clean, orderly, and fully functional.
  • Ensure plant quality and presentation standards are sustained after stock transitions to the retail area.

General Expectations & Availability

  • Collaborate openly with all Ranch team members and actively participate in team meetings.
  • Pursue continuous industry learning via facility visits and educational resources to implement innovative growing practices.
  • Assist in other operational areas of the business as needed.

  • Work Schedule: Understand that completing essential spraying, time-sensitive planting, and keeping critical crop schedules on track may require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week during peak production cycles.
