The Lead requires leadership skills and project oversight, whereas the Developer emphasizes technical expertise in app development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an iOS Team Lead, and why are they important?

To thrive as an iOS Team Lead, you need advanced proficiency in Swift and Objective-C, experience with iOS frameworks, and a strong background in software architecture, usually supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Expertise in tools like Xcode, version control systems such as Git, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and App Store deployment processes are essential. Outstanding leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help guide teams and foster collaboration. These competencies ensure high-quality app delivery, effective team management, and alignment with business objectives in a dynamic mobile development environment.

What are iOS Team Leads?

iOS Team Leads are experienced software engineers responsible for overseeing teams that design, develop, and maintain iOS applications. They coordinate team efforts, mentor junior developers, and ensure that projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards. In addition to technical expertise in Swift and Objective-C, iOS Team Leads often collaborate with other departments, manage project timelines, and help define the app’s architecture. Their leadership is crucial in driving innovation and ensuring that the apps meet both user needs and business objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by an iOS Team Lead when managing cross-functional projects?

As an iOS Team Lead, one common challenge is ensuring smooth communication and alignment between the iOS team and other departments, such as design, backend, and QA. Balancing technical priorities with business requirements often requires careful negotiation and compromise. Additionally, it can be challenging to keep up with evolving iOS technologies while mentoring team members and delivering projects on time. Successful team leads foster a collaborative environment, encourage knowledge sharing, and proactively address roadblocks to keep projects on track.

Job description

Job Title: Lead iOS Engineer
Work Location: New York, NY 10011
Job Type: Full-Time Employment
Benefits: Full Package

NOTE: No sponsorship available

MUST HAVE: Past experience with tech companies that are Facebook (now Meta), Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google (now Alphabet), Microsoft, OpenAI, SpaceX, Tesla, Anthropic, Nvidia.

We’re hiring a Lead iOS Engineer to build the next-generation iOS experience from the ground up.
This is a rare opportunity to define the architecture, engineering standards, user experience, and technical direction of a new native iOS app at a company with real scale, strong momentum, and meaningful product complexity.
This is not a role for someone looking to simply implement tickets. We’re looking for an engineer with strong product instincts, excellent engineering judgment, and a high bar for craft, someone who wants to help define what mobile should be at company for years to come.
You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Backend, Data, and company leadership. You’ll own critical decisions end-to-end, from architecture and developer experience to app performance, reliability, analytics, and release quality. You will also help shape our broader mobile app strategy and, over time, help build the iOS team and engineering culture around you.

Tech Stack
iOS:
Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit
Backend: Ruby on Rails, Node.js
Data: Postgres, MongoDB
Infra / Obs: AWS, Datadog
Testing: XCTest, UI testing, CI/CD pipelines

Who you are
•    5+ years building production iOS applications with meaningful consumer-facing scale, quality, and complexity.
•    Strong command of Swift and modern iOS development patterns.
•    Experience building polished native experiences with strong attention to performance, usability, animation, responsiveness, and edge cases.
•    You have led or heavily influenced architecture decisions for a substantial iOS codebase.
•    You care deeply about product quality and can translate complex states and workflows into simple, elegant user experiences.
•    You know how to move fast without creating long-term fragility.
•    You’re comfortable working closely with backend engineers on APIs, data contracts, and systems tradeoffs.
•    You have strong engineering fundamentals: code quality, testing discipline, observability, release reliability, and operational ownership.
•    You are energized by zero-to-one work and want real ownership, not a narrow lane.
•    You bring taste and judgment. You know when to insist on quality, when to simplify, and how to make smart tradeoffs in a fast-moving company.
•    Ideally, you’ve worked on high-quality consumer products at top engineering organizations or elite startups where the bar for craft and execution is exceptionally high.
•    You’re a good person. Building a startup is hard. Being thoughtful, low-ego, and great to work with should not be. We care deeply about building an ambitious team with a strong culture.
