Job description

This position is based at our Northshore location (2077 Town Center Blvd in Knoxville, TN), and it follows a hybrid remote schedule (in the office 1-2 days/week). The deadline to apply for this opportunity is June 15, 2026.
Job Summary: The Communications Manager is responsible for managing internal communication channels and content that support employee engagement, operational clarity, and organizational alignment. This position partners with technical teams as needed but does not perform system administration, development, or advanced technical configuration of communication platforms. This role oversees the day-to-day management of ORNL Federal Credit Union's intranet and internal communication platforms, ensuring content is organized, accurate, timely, and accessible.
The Communications Manager partners across departments to publish and maintain internal content, including the creation of original materials and the management, posting, and organization of stakeholder-provided content. The role ensures the Credit Union's voice, messaging, and visual aesthetic are consistently reflected across internal communications, reinforcing brand standards and a cohesive employee experience.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Internal Communications & Intranet Management: Manages the structure, organization, and content publishing of internal communication platforms, including the Credit Union's intranet (SharePoint). Ensures internal content is current, accurate, well-organized, and aligned with established standards and governance. Supports the business in decisions about intranet structure and content strategy, while relying on IT or technical resources for configuration changes or complex technical support.
  • Content Coordination & Publishing: Coordinates with leaders and subject matter experts to receive, edit as needed, publish, and maintain internal communications content. Determines appropriate placement, format, and timing of content based on channel standards and audience needs. Not all content is authored by this role.
  • Platform & Document Management Support: Maintains a functional understanding of SharePoint, page layouts, permissions, and document storage practices. Supports content organization, document version control, and navigation to ensure employees can easily locate information.
  • Governance, Standards, & Quality Assurance: Supports internal communication standards, templates, and content governance. Reviews internal content for clarity, consistency, and usability prior to publication. Partners with stakeholders to ensure compliance with communication guidelines and retention practices.
  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement: Monitors usage, engagement, and feedback related to internal communication platforms. Compiles basic analytics and insights to support continuous improvement of internal communications and intranet effectiveness.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Work Experience:
  • Five or more years of experience in communications, internal communications, content management, or in a related field is required.
  • Experience managing or supporting an intranet or internal communication platform is required.
  • Experience working with SharePoint content/document management systems is required.
  • Experience supporting or executing work that requires consistent brand representation, messaging alignment, and attention to tone, visual identity, and employee experience is required.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment, supporting multiple stakeholders and shifting priorities is required.

Education:
  • A Bachelors degree in Communications, English, Business, Information Management, Human Resources, or in a related field is required.
  • Certification/License Certifications or training related to Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Content Management, or Information Architecture is preferred.
