Job description

True North Equipment, with locations in Grafton, Grand Forks, Northwood, Kennedy, Warren, Thief River Falls, Mahnomen, and Baudette, is committed to developing future talent and supporting students pursuing technical careers in Powersports, Small Engines, Ag/Diesel, and related fields. We offer paid tuition, a paid internship, tools, and guaranteed full‑time employment upon graduation.


The Turf & Compact Tractor/Construction Technician Intern supports the service department through hands-on learning, basic equipment maintenance, and the development of foundational diagnostic skills. This internship is designed to build real-world mechanical experience while complementing the academic requirements of an accredited Powersports Technology, Small Engine Repair, or General Diesel Program.


Interns work under the direct guidance of experienced technicians and service leaders, gradually building the knowledge and skills needed to transition into a full-time technician role after graduation.


You’ll focus on:

As a Turf & Compact Tractor/Construction Equipment Technician Intern, you will:


  • Perform basic service and maintenance tasks such as lubrication, blade sharpening, filter changes, cleaning, and equipment inspection.
  • Assist technicians with the removal, disassembly, repair, and reconditioning of equipment components as training progresses.
  • Prepare new and used equipment for delivery, rental, or resale.
  • Participating in John Deere EDUCATE and dealership training programs to build technical knowledge
  • Supporting service department operations while gaining real‑world diagnostic and repair experience
  • Following safety procedures and wearing the required uniforms and PPE.
  • This position reports to the location Service Manager


What we are looking for:

Academic & Program Expectations

  • Complete ACT or program entrance requirements as required by NDSCS or the accredited college program.
  • Visit and enroll in an approved program such as Powersports Technology, Small Engines Repair, or General Diesel.
  • Follow all program uniform requirements and safety protocols, including required PPE.

  • Demonstrate dependability, teamwork, and a positive attitude in all interactions.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, customers, and supervisors.
  • Participate in shop meetings, trainings, and ongoing development activities.
  • Uphold True North Equipment’s values and professional standards at all times.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrollment in (or intent to enroll in) an accredited Powersports, Small Engines, Diesel, or related technical program.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in equipment repair.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely lift and maneuver equipment or components with proper assistance.
