Brooklyn Public Library has an excitingPAIDinternship opportunity forcurrently enrolled SUNY students.Interns willgain hands-on experienceinalarge, dynamic organization, receive mentorship from seasoned professionals, and participate in excitingweeklyenrichment opportunitieswith their peers.

Many people assume that everyone who works in a library is a librarian. In reality, libraries employ a wide range of skilled professionals and are organized into many of the same departments as other businesses. As an intern, you will be placed in one of the followingbusinessdepartments:

  • Information Technology- interns will support the WebApps and Cybersecurity/Computer Networking teams with initiatives such as improving IT file and folder organization systems, assisting with the coordination of IT efforts across various renovation projects, and supporting the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the Library's publicfacing and internal web applications

  • Finance- interns will support theprocurement team with projects like contract negotiation, purchase orders,financial reporting,and more

  • Capital Planning & Facilities Management- interns will support the department withprojects like fire safety audits

  • Public Service/Executive Directors Office- interns will support executive leadership with various special projects

  • Strategy- interns will support Team Datain consolidating and managing reference data about BPL's branches

Internship Details

  • Eligibility:student currently enrolled at a participating SUNY campus

  • Dates:June15- August21

  • Location:Central Library (10 Grand Army Plaza)

  • Schedule:Interns may be scheduled to work up to 35 hours per week based on operational needs

  • Compensation:$20an hour

Responsibilities

  • Learn how the department supports the work of the library

  • Work collaboratively as part of the team

  • Participate in projects and related tasks (e.g.,writing, research, planning, reports, etc.)

  • Support team members across the department

  • Communicate with colleagues and other relevant stakeholders

  • Participate in weekly intern enrichment opportunities

Qualifications

  • Must be a student currently enrolled at a participating SUNY campus

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Motivated self-starter and team player

  • Experience with various computer applications (Microsoft 365, Google, etc.)

  • Interest in non-profits is a plus
