What You Will Do
The Bioscience Division (B) is comprised of a diverse team of scientists, engineers, technical staff, and professional administrative personnel who work collaboratively across the Laboratory to address complex national security challenges. The Division advances science and technology to reduce natural and deliberate threats to human health, strengthen environmental resilience, and develop innovative solutions that benefit the Nation.
The Bioscience Division is seeking a motivated Administrative Undergraduate Student Intern to provide administrative and operational support to Division and Group Offices. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for students interested in business operations, office administration, and professional services to gain practical experience in a dynamic research environment while developing valuable workplace skills.
The selected student will work under the guidance of experienced administrative professionals and will contribute to the day-to-day operations that support the Division's scientific mission. Students will receive mentorship, meaningful work assignments, and opportunities to expand their professional knowledge while collaborating with a diverse workforce.
This appointment is intended for students who are available to work year-round, including full-time during the summer and a minimum of 20 hours per week during the academic year.
As an Administrative Undergraduate Student Intern, you will provide administrative support to a variety of customers throughout the Bioscience Division, including Division Office personnel, Group Office staff, managers, scientists, and technical staff. Assignments may include:
  • Providing administrative support to Division and Group Office operations.
  • Assisting with timekeeping processes and related administrative activities.
  • Coordinating domestic and international travel arrangements in accordance with Laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and coordinating appointments for managers.
  • Preparing correspondence, reports, meeting materials, and other business documents.
  • Maintaining electronic and physical records in accordance with Laboratory records management requirements.
  • Processing facility and service requests and coordinating office logistics.
  • Assisting with meeting planning, onboarding activities, procurement support, and other administrative functions as assigned.
  • Providing professional customer service while exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Supporting multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while demonstrating initiative and attention to detail.
  • Support facility and laboratory operations by assisting with equipment moves and installations, space planning, and laboratory logistics.
  • Support procurement and property management activities, including material ordering, inventory tracking, vendor coordination, and surplus property disposition

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours or equivalent) in an accredited undergraduate degree program.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Available to work full-time during the summer and a minimum of 20 hours per week during the academic year.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information with professionalism.

Additional Details
