COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Tenure-Track or Clinical Track Open Rank Professor in Veterinary Neurology

The Neurology and Neurosurgery Service at the College of Veterinary Medicine is looking for a third neurology faculty member to continue to develop and grow the service. The Neurology & Neurosurgery Service at the University of Illinois is committed to continuing our tradition of outstanding service, teaching, and research. Percent time dedicated to teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical service will be based on the successful candidate's career goals, academic proclivities, and the needs of the department.

The Neurology & Neurosurgery service is currently supported by two clinical faculty, two dedicated veterinary technicians, one customer service representative, five ACVIM neurology residents, and a neurology specialty intern. The successful candidate will continue to provide excellent clinical service and clinical and didactic teaching of professional students, residents, and interns. The service enjoys a large and varied caseload in the small animal clinic with consultations throughout the hospital. The service also receives outstanding support from anesthesia, critical care, and pathology services. Our hospital possesses a comprehensive array of resources in the form of state-of-the-art diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical equipment and enjoys a close relationship with faculty members across our department, the college, and the university. Opportunities to collaborate with clinical and basic science researchers within the college and university are widely available.

The University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital is well suited to support the continued growth of the Neurology & Neurosurgery program, by virtue of its comprehensive array of resources relevant to the discipline of neurology & neurosurgery in the form of state-of-the-art diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical equipment. A 9,000 ft hospital expansion was recently completed, consisting of 8 operating room suites, with dedicated neurosurgical space. Specific imaging modalities relevant to the Small Animal Neurology service include a Siemens 3T Skyra magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Siemens Somatom 128 slice CT, and electrodiagnostic equipment (Cadwell Sierra Summit) with capabilities for EMG, NCV, EP, EEG telemetry (Cadwell Arc EEG), and urodynamic (Lifetech Urolab Opus V) procedures. Near the Veterinary College, highly advanced and complementary imaging systems are available at the Biomedical Imaging Center, Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology (http://bic.beckman.illinois.edu), including two 3T MRI and one 9.4T MRI.

CU experiences all 4 seasons, has minimal traffic, and has a low cost of living with parks, recreational facilities, and several Forest Preserves within 30 minutes of campus for outdoor activities. Perched at the crossroads of two interstates, CU is 2 hours from Chicago and has easy access to many other cities in the Midwest including St. Louis, Indianapolis, Nashville, Memphis, Louisville, and Milwaukee.

Required qualifications: The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent and have completed or currently completing a residency program in Neurology. Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN), or credentials acceptable by ACVIM or ECVN for board eligibility, is required. We are looking for a candidate who is a strong team player, interested in developing productive research, service, and/or teaching programs that can integrate with activities of other groups across the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus.

Salary: The budgeted salary range for this position is $145,000 to $180,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable positions.
