Description
The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for leading all aspects of manufacturing operations to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for production teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and partners cross-functionally to align manufacturing performance with overall business objectives. The Director of Manufacturing serves as the primary point of contact for production leadership and collaborates closely with executive management to achieve operational excellence.
Operations Management:
  • Direct and oversee daily manufacturing operations to ensure production schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements are consistently met.
  • Monitor operational performance and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain productivity and efficiency.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of labor, equipment, and materials.

Strategic Planning:
  • Develop and execute manufacturing strategies that support organizational growth and business objectives.
  • Lead production forecasting, capacity planning, resource allocation, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational scalability and profitability.

Team Leadership:
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and evaluate manufacturing leadership and staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish performance expectations and support employee development through coaching and training.

Process Improvement:
  • Identify bottlenecks, implement new technologies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Quality and Compliance:
  • Ensure products consistently meet established quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead quality assurance initiatives and promote a culture of workplace safety.

Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage manufacturing budgets and capital expenditure plans.
  • Monitor production costs, labor efficiency, and operational expenses.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining quality and service standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with departments such as sales, production, and finance to ensure manufacturing goals support overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate on production planning, inventory management, and project execution to ensure operational alignment.

Reporting and Analysis:
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and cost.
  • Prepare and present operational reports and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Utilize data-driven decision-making to improve overall manufacturing performance.

Requirements
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, including oversight of large-scale production operations.
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement, operational excellence, and team leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems, quality standards, workplace safety regulations, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with ERP systems, production planning tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred
  • Experience in commercial printing, packaging, direct mail, or related print manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of offset, digital, and large-format printing operations.
  • Familiarity with print finishing, bindery, mailing operations, workflow automation, and color management processes.

Working Conditions
  • This position operates in both a professional office environment and a manufacturing facility.
  • Regular presence on the production floor is required to oversee operations, support employees, and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • The role may involve standing, walking, bending, and traversing manufacturing areas for extended periods.
  • Frequent interaction with internal departments and executive leadership is required.
