Job description

Job Summary This paid internship opportunity with the Brown County Medical Examiner's Office (BCMEO) is based out of Green Bay, Wisconsin. This internship does not require current enrollment in a college program and is not eligible for college credit. However, the internship schedule aligns with the traditional academic year (fall, spring, and summer).

This internship will be focused on assisting the daily administrative operations of the Medical Examiner's Office, but may give exposure to other duties, including those of the funeral home liaison, clerk, quality assurance specialist, office management, medicolegal death investigation, and forensic pathology. Individual projects may be assigned on a case-by-case basis depending on the personal and professional goals of the intern. INTERNSHIP GOALS The internship program will provide individuals dedicated to community service the opportunity to gain insight into the essential public service functions of the Office of the Medical Examiner, with an emphasis on public health, education, and emergency management.

Interns will support the department's daily operations and contribute to departmental projects, actively advancing its mission to provide compassionate forensic medical care to the communities we serve. Interns will deepen their interpersonal skills by engaging with the public, including individuals experiencing loss, as well as with civil service professionals. SCHEDULE Fall: October-December Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm (hours may vary) Up to 200 hours 40hr/week for 5 weeks 25hr/week for 8 weeks 20hr/week for 10 weeks Essential Duties Maintain positive relationships with outside agencies, families of decedents, and other members of the public.

Adhere to all agency policies and procedures. Adhere to all policies and laws regarding personal information and privacy. Support daily operational activities.

Assist general administrative and office duties. Assist with ongoing departmental projects, such as legacy data migration and data aggregation. Provide support to investigative staff with follow-up tasks within the office, as appropriate and at BCMEO staff's discretion.

Assist BCMEO staff with cremation permit examinations as necessary. Observe scene investigations when appropriate, under the supervision of a medicolegal investigator and at the discretion of the Forensic Pathologist. Support morgue operations, subject to case volume and at the discretion of the autopsy service team.

Participate in postmortem examinations as workload permits and at the discretion of the autopsy service team. Complete assigned training project, if applicable. Minimum Qualifications Required College juniors, seniors, or graduate students pursuing a degree in a related field such as nursing/medicine, death investigation, criminal justice, or public health, as well as non-students with a prior 4-year degree in a related field or other relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of general office procedures. Knowledge of English, grammar, and spelling. Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work the required hours of the position, to include the 200 hours for the duration of the internship.
