The charter of Vistex’ data science team is to augment the go-to-market functionality that Vistex delivers to their customers with additional intelligence. To achieve this, the data science team leverages expertise in data-driven science as well as acumen in business-to-business commerce. This data-driven science includes broad areas of data science, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, operations research, and computer science.

The opportunity to work with interns provides Vistex with fresh perspectives and current knowledge that can stimulate innovation and influence future product development, helping the organization stay ahead of emerging industry trends.

As a member of a team of Intern Data Scientists, and with the guidance of your mentor, you will get a chance to help innovate our advanced analytics tool sets. The successful candidate will work on diagnosing and framing the problem, developing proof-of-concept models and prototypes, and pitching your problem-solving process and value proposition to key stakeholders.

This can cover topics such as:

  • Utilizing Causal Effect Analysis techniques to evaluate the price impacts on promotion effectiveness
  • Developing a hybrid explainable modeling approach for an AI Augmented Target Price (ATP) that combines an interpretable baseline recommendation plus a machine learning-derived correction.
  • Uncovering sales/purchase patterns to cluster and segment products and/or customers for enhancing forecasting models development.
  • Prototype selected key functionalities of the demand modeling workflow for business users including (but not limited to)
    • data steward (data aggregation, outlier detections, corrections, etc.)
    • price-demand modeling varying by driver selections and model types
    • scenarios of demand, parameters, or constraints
    • evaluation of scenarios such as impact analysis, hold-out methods, etc.
    • monitoring of drift in models and processes

 The internship will result in a summary paper and a final presentation to company managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Research internal and external resources

Collect information regarding your research topic from internal resources as well as external resources, including literature research and public data sets.

  • Execute analytical work

This work includes tasks like data analysis, data mining, segmentation, modeling the relation between price levers and demand response, time series forecasting, and mathematical programming.  

  • Document, summarize and present your results.
