The HIHG Organized Research Lab is seeking a Research Associate 1 to work full-time, on-site in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
2. Participates in the publication of significant results.
3. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
4. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
5. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
6. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
7. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
8. Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
9. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Department Specific Functions

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Research Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive hands-on support for research projects involving mammalian cell culture, protein biochemistry, and molecular biology. Responsibilities include assisting in the design, execution, and optimization of experiments; maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies; accurately documenting procedures and results; and ensuring full compliance with institutional safety and regulatory standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cell Culture & Manipulation:Maintain human iPSC cell lines, including passaging, cell counting, cryopreservation, and monitoring for contamination.

  • Molecular Biology Techniques:Perform RNA extraction and purification. Conduct nucleic acid amplification assays (PCR, RT-qPCR).

  • Biochemistry & Protein Analysis:Execute protein purification. Perform Western blotting, ELISAs, and enzymatic and citotoxicity assays.

  • Data & Reporting:Accurately document experimental procedures, data, and results in an electronic or paper lab notebook. Analyze data using software like Excel or GraphPad Prism.

  • Laboratory Maintenance:Prepare reagents, buffers, and media. Calibrate instruments and manage inventory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:Bachelor's degree in biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.

  • Preferred Experience:1 year of relevant laboratory experience (including academic internships).

  • Technical Skills:Hands-on experience with cell culture, and biochemical methods.

  • Preferred Skills: Experience with advanced techniques: protein purification, 3D cell culture (organoids)
