Volunteers of America, Dakotas’ Lifemarks Behavioral Health is able to offer unpaid clinical/advanced internships for Masters Level Social Work and Mental Health/Counseling students, upon approval of Intern Supervisor.
POSITION SUMMARY
Lifemarks Behavioral Health Interns will assist in providing comprehensive mental health and supportive services for internal programs such as New Start Residential Addiction Treatment for Pregnant and Parenting Women, Axis 180 Transitional Living for Homeless Young Adults, CHOICES Program for Adults with Intellectual and Development Disabilities, individuals working with our Outpatient Addictions programming, and comprehensive outpatient mental health services.
Interns may have the opportunity to:
- Observe and conduct individual and group therapy with children, adolescents, and adults, in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Observe a variety of evidence-based practices.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with referral sources in the community including: Department of Corrections, Unified Judicial Services, and Child Protection Services for legally involved clients.
- Attend and participate in weekly case consultations, staff meetings, and ongoing training.
- Work with professionals from diverse clinical backgrounds.
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, maintain clinical documentation (including progress notes and discharge summaries) within VOAD’s electronic health record.
- Provide referral services for clients when necessary.
- Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all clients.
- Ensure consistent and ongoing communication with immediate supervisors.
POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Currently attending a Master’s level counseling or social work program.
Internship Focus: Clinical and/or Advanced standing
Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
A. Ability to stand, walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward and above shoulders, speak, crawl, squat, kneel, and bend on a daily basis.
B. Capability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 25 lbs on a daily basis.
