Internship Augmented Reality information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Augmented Reality Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Augmented Reality Intern, you typically need a background in computer science or related fields, with foundational knowledge in AR development and 3D modeling. Familiarity with AR platforms like Unity or Unreal Engine, as well as programming languages such as C# or C++, is often expected. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and effective teamwork are valuable soft skills that help interns excel in collaborative and innovative environments. These competencies are vital for contributing to AR projects, adapting to rapidly evolving technology, and delivering engaging user experiences.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during an Augmented Reality internship?

As an Augmented Reality intern, you will typically be involved in projects such as developing AR prototypes, optimizing AR experiences for mobile devices, and assisting with user testing. You may work closely with designers, developers, and product managers to integrate AR features into existing applications or create new interactive experiences. This hands-on exposure allows you to gain practical skills in AR frameworks, 3D modeling, and real-time rendering, while also learning to solve challenges related to user engagement and performance optimization.

What are Internship Augmented Reality positions?

Internship Augmented Reality positions are temporary roles designed for students or early-career professionals to gain hands-on experience in developing, designing, or researching augmented reality (AR) technologies. Interns typically work on real-world projects involving AR applications, such as creating interactive digital overlays, developing AR software, or testing AR hardware. These internships provide valuable technical skills, exposure to industry-standard tools, and an understanding of how AR is used across various sectors like gaming, education, retail, and healthcare. They often require knowledge of programming languages, 3D modeling, or user experience design. Completing an AR internship can pave the way for future careers in immersive technology fields.

What is the difference between Internship Augmented Reality vs Augmented Reality Developer?

AspectInternship Augmented RealityAugmented Reality Developer

Job description

The Applied Perception Science (APS) team at Meta Reality Labs is seeking a research scientist intern to join our vision science program, focusing on visual perception in augmented reality (AR) headsets. This role will help pioneer foundational research into the interaction between AR digital content and the real world in see-through displays, informing display technologies in next-generation AR devices. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to design and conduct psychophysical experiments, develop new metrics of visual perception in AR, and build a new research stream quantifying visual performance in AR hardware. Your work will directly inform the design and optimization of AR display architectures, ensuring that Meta's products deliver industry-leading visual experiences. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Responsibilities
Work on topics in spatio-temporal/color perception during eye movements to support research in AR head-mounted display technologies
• Design and conduct psychophysical experiments to quantify visual perception with AR displays, including studies that account for individual differences in visual perception and novel display architectures
• Conceive and develop models of visual perception to help guide emerging AR display technologies
• Collaborate and communicate with scientists and engineers across a variety of disciplines to design vision science studies in an applied context
Minimum Qualifications
• Currently pursuing a PhD degree in vision science, cognitive science, or a related field
• Experience designing, conducting, and analyzing the results of psychophysical experiments related to visual perception
• Experience with scientific programming languages (e.g., Matlab and Python), including their use to script psychophysical experiments
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated expertise in vision science, psychophysics, computational modeling, or eye movement analysis
• Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as VSS, ECVP, SID, SIGGRAPH, or similar
• Experience designing and running human subject experiments
• Experience with Python/Psychopy, or MATLAB, particularly for the development of psychophysical experiments
• Experience working with benchtop displays, head-mounted displays, or other hardware to study the visual system
• Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment
• Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op
