Job Summary

The Communications Manager is an individual contributor who serves as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders across the company and works closely with other members of the Corporate Communications team. The manager is responsible for develop and execute communication strategies that support major initiatives. Responsibilities include creating and distributing content across multiple channels, ensuring messaging drives awareness, understanding, and engagement among employees at all levels. The role also monitors and evaluates communication effectiveness, leveraging data and metrics to assess impact and inform continuous improvement. This role serves as a strategic partner to business leaders, translating complex initiatives into clear, consistent messaging that supports alignment across the organization. While primarily focused on internal communications, the role contributes across a range of communication channels, including owned, earned, and shared channels.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leadership, providing counsel on business priorities, organizational change, and employee engagement.
  • Lead the development and execution of integrated communications strategies aligned with enterprise goals, ensuring clarity, consistency, and impact across all channels.
  • Oversee content creation and editorial governance, producing high-quality communications and translating complex or sensitive topics into clear, accessible messaging.
  • Plan and execute internal communications campaigns, delivering high-quality and impactful content - including editorial, intranet and digital platforms, slides, presentations, enterprise-wide events such as company town halls, and more. 
  • Drive communications effectiveness and alignment, using data and feedback to refine strategy, prioritize messaging, and ensure adherence to Amtrak's brand standards and organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with teams across GACC, to support strategic initiatives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 7 years of relevant work experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or a related discipline
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Business, or a related field - or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
  • Plus 9 years of relevant work experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with Amtrak or public sector communications is preferred.
  • Familiarity with newsletter distribution tools and working with internal websites is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent skills using PC-based spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel, Access); Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and confident presenter
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience supporting messaging, script writing, or key message development.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced communications environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills - with the ability to shift voice and tone for different audiences and leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior executives and managing complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Demonstrate experience translating strategy into messaging that drives real employee engagement and action.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment with competing priorities.

The salary/hourly range is $113,200.00 - $146,664.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
