Intern Phone Interview information

What is an intern phone interview?

An intern phone interview is a preliminary screening conducted over the phone to assess a candidate’s qualifications, communication skills, and fit for an internship position. Employers use these interviews to shortlist applicants before inviting them to subsequent rounds, such as in-person or virtual interviews. During the call, interviewers typically ask about your resume, interests, and knowledge related to the role. It’s also an opportunity for candidates to learn more about the company and internship program. Being prepared with examples of your skills and thoughtful questions can help you stand out.

What can I expect during an intern phone interview and how should I prepare?

During an intern phone interview, you can expect questions about your academic background, relevant coursework, and any previous internship or project experience. Interviewers often assess your communication skills, motivation for the internship, and understanding of the company. It's common to discuss your problem-solving abilities and how you approach teamwork, as these are crucial for most internship roles. Preparing by researching the company, reviewing the job description, and practicing responses to behavioral questions will help you feel confident. Having thoughtful questions ready for the interviewer can also demonstrate your genuine interest in the position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an intern phone interview, and why are they important?

To succeed in an intern phone interview, strong communication skills, a basic understanding of the industry or role, and relevant academic background are essential. Familiarity with video conferencing platforms, applicant tracking systems, or online assessment tools may also be beneficial. Confidence, active listening, and professionalism help candidates stand out during the conversation. These skills ensure you can clearly convey your qualifications, engage positively with interviewers, and make a memorable impression for internship opportunities.

Apprenticely is helping Acres hire a Business Development Intern in Fayetteville, AR.

As a Business Development Intern at Acres, you'll help identify and engage organizations that can benefit from our map-based land intelligence platform. Working alongside our commercial team, you'll research prospective customers, support outreach efforts, qualify opportunities, and help build the pipeline that drives Acres' continued growth.

This role is ideal for someone who is curious, analytical, and eager to learn how a high-growth technology company identifies new business opportunities. You'll gain hands-on experience with market research, customer discovery, CRM management, and enterprise business development while working directly with experienced professionals in a fast-paced startup environment.

Your research, organization, and initiative will directly contribute to helping organizations discover how Acres' land intelligence platform can solve complex business challenges.

Note: This position will begin as a full-time, 3-month paid internship at a fixed rate of $15 per hour. Successful interns may be considered for future full-time opportunities based on performance and business needs.

What You'll Do...
  • Research Prospective Customers: Identify organizations and key decision-makers who could benefit from Acres' land intelligence platform. Conduct account research to better understand customer needs, industries, and business challenges.
  • Support Business Development Efforts: Assist with outbound outreach through email, phone, and LinkedIn to introduce prospective customers to Acres and generate meaningful conversations.
  • Qualify New Opportunities: Help evaluate inbound and outbound leads by conducting initial discovery conversations and determining whether they're a strong fit for our solutions before handing them off to the Account Executive team.
  • Maintain CRM Accuracy: Keep customer and prospect information organized within HubSpot by documenting outreach, updating records, and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Learn the Acres Platform: Develop a strong understanding of Acres' products, customers, and markets to confidently communicate our value and support customer conversations.
  • Collaborate Across the Commercial Team: Partner with Business Development Representatives, Account Executives, and Sales Leadership to support pipeline development and contribute to team initiatives.
  • Track Activity and Progress: Monitor outreach efforts, follow-ups, and pipeline activity while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and engagement.
  • Contribute to Team Success: Participate in training, team meetings, coaching sessions, and special projects while developing professional skills in communication, business development, and commercial strategy.
We're Looking For Someone Who
  • Is curious and enjoys solving business problems.
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enjoys research, technology, and learning about new industries.
  • Is organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment.
