Job description

Job Summary

CalPortland is seeking a summer intern for the Oro Grande cement plant.  This internship is ideal for a student interested in mechanical engineering.  The intern will have the opportunity to work with the plants mechanical/maintenance department. This intern will gain insight into the cement and building materials industry. 

Compensation

$20.50-$27.00/hr DOE

Responsibilities
  • Complete Safety and MSHA training and any other site/job specific required training
  • Carry-out and practice all Safety training and Company policies in the CalPortland workplace
  • Provide support to the Oro Grande Maintenance Mechanical team. 
  • Assist in PM instruction develeopment
  • Learn about cement plant operations
  • Additional work with plant engineers
  • Assist in routine housekeeping and maintenance of the facilities
  • Learn about other CalPortland departments and interface as required   
  • Attend Summer Intern event at Corporate Headquarters in Las Vegas, NV
  • Perform plant tasks as assigned
Education

Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Preferably an understanding of drafting/AutoCAD
  • Good attendance and punctual
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Must possess valid driver's license, insurance and be insurable to drive company vehicles

Preferred:

  • Experience with equipment management software
  • Prior experience or internship in construction or building materials industry
Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
