The Marvin Group, a leading defense contractor, plays a crucial role in the development and manufacturing of various systems for military aerospace and vehicles. Based in Southern California near the Los Angeles International Airport, The Marvin Group consists of Marvin Engineering (MEC), Marvin Test Solutions (MTS) and Marvin Land Systems (MLS). ย Marvin Engineering designs and produces military Alternate Mission Equipment. ย Marvin Test Solutions designs and manufactures armament Test Equipment. Marvin Land Systems specializes in the design and build of power and thermal management systems. POSITION SUMMARY:ย 

During this internship participants will become part of the mechanical, manufacturing and tooling engineering department which you will be mentor and work beside to contribute to the great innovation produced by Marvin Engineering! Our goal is to provide the fundamental tools needed to be successful in your career field, and to potentially prepare you for an opportunity to join Marvin Engineering full-time. Fields of focus will be diverse across the program and include functional and technical opportunities.

Candidate will gain exposure to the engineering design cycle, from concept development to integration, manufacturing, and test. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, manufacturing and technical management and will be responsible for following the integration, design, technical solutions and manufacturing on products, including Rail Launchers, Bomb Racks, and Ground Vehicles.
Applicant should be able to interface effectively with multiple functional groups including: production, planning, engineering, quality, contracts/subcontracts, and other logistics and support personnel to achieve completion of deliverables to our customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Training and application of MEC tools including CATIA V5, SolidWorks and PDM
  • Design and Documentation support utilizing engineering tools, Adobe, and MS office suite
  • Engineering Change Request, Engineering Change Notice/Order and Drawing Release
  • Collaboration with coworkers and diverse teams
  • Training on MEC processes and procedures
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience being a team player to build consensus among peers and build effective relationships with multiple customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage change, identify issues, and work with stakeholders to develop solutions.
  • Ability to inspire confidence and lead others to complete challenging systems related tasks.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes including documentation, machining, welding, heat treatment, surface treatment and assembly.
  • Model Based Engineering experience and 2D drawing (using CAD model ex. CATIA V5 & SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of Metal Galvanic Compatibility

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Postgraduate by the start of summer in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Understanding of Manufacturing or Mechanical engineering fundamentals including structures, mechanisms, materials, and analysis
  • Proficient utilizing CAD (Computer Aided Design) modeling, drafting and release.
  • Demonstrated Mechanical design, drafting and modeling techniques.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3.5 or above cumulative GPA desired
  • Prior engineering project or internship experience
  • Experience with CATIA V5 and SmarTeam PDM
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Microsoft Office or other presentation tools
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with coworkers on cross-function teams from diverse communities and cultures
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution style
  • Basic knowledge in Geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) using ASME Y14.5-LATEST standard.

SALARY RANGE:

Base Salary Range (Inglewood only): $20.00 to $25.00 Hourly
