About the Position
The Technology Associate performs a variety of in-house programs and outreach services focusing on technology programs and skills, and delivers instructional information on computer programs and software use. This position is primarily in the Main Creative Lab, but may include supporting patrons on public computers.
Primary Responsibilities
  • High quality customer service. Provides customer service assistance to library patrons by responding to patron inquiries, typically in computer lab or outreach lab setting. Interprets Library rules, policies and procedures to the public. Interacts with patrons in person, by telephone and electronically. May be called upon to handle difficult patron interactions or solve customer service problems requiring the intervention of a supervisor. Assist patrons with the use of computers and technology. Has the ability to serve a diverse population.
  • Working relationships. Fosters good working relationships with diverse people including staff, patrons, volunteers and vendors.
    Accepts assignments from supervisor, manager or other Library staff in a professional and timely manner.
  • Programming and outreach. Under the supervision of the designated program or service coordinator and with approval of supervisor or manager, performs a role in delivering high quality library programs and services to community members. Schedule and train patrons on use of equipment and software in the creative lab. May require knowledge of specialized knowledge of technology, computer and software programs.
  • Help desk assistance. Provides limited, routine technical assistance related to computer hardware and software. Software includes: My PC, Papercut, Microsoft Office, Scanners, Internet, E-Mail, and the Library Catalog and Databases. Performs limited PC maintenance and monitors computers for proper functioning.
  • Committees and workgroups. Takes on a leadership role when participating in committees or workgroups on activities that align with strategic goals.
  • Supervision and leadership. Takes a leadership role in mentoring staff with training and on assigned committees or workgroups. May assist the manager with filling vacancies, may supervise or support volunteer program at the location. May assume the role of acting or in-charge manager in the absences of Manager.
  • Circulation tasks. May perform a variety of activities which are repetitive in nature related to the checking-in and checking-out library materials and processing patron hold requests. Assists patrons with account activity and fines.
  • Other duties. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree and one year related job experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates background and knowledge in performing primary responsibilities will be considered.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer software ( Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Adobe Reader) and hardware configurations and capabilities and typical maintenance process.
  • Ability to analyze a variety of technology equipment issues and problems and make recommendations.
  • Enthusiasm to work with the public and a solid foundation in good customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills, ability to work with teams, and the ability to motivate and negotiate with diverse individuals and groups
  • Intermediate knowledge of operating a computer and programs
  • Ability to work independently and deal effectively with stress caused by workload, time management and deadlines. Ability to work days, nights or weekends as scheduled.
  • Must have Utah Driver License and clean driving record, If travel is required for library purposes must have transportation. If using personal vehicle must maintain state required insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Spanish language and/or other non-English language skills.
  • Experience with designing and or teaching computer skill classes to adult learners.
  • Knowledge or experience with HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, open source music, video editing and 3D modeling/printing software.

Working Environment:
  • Work is performed in a busy urban library environment.
  • Subject to repetitive movement; standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting of objects. May be subject to standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift/carry library materials, up to 50 lbs, and push/pull library carts.
  • Must have good hand mobility and coordination.
  • Subject to intermittent periods of inclement weather when retrieving library materials or participating in library outreach programs.

Schedule:
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week. Evenings and weekends will be required.

  • Starting Range 14; Minimum $23.28/hour - depending on experience..
