Job description

Fall 2026 Internship: This position is at our Bentonville, Arkansas location.  Expected program dates are September 14 - December 4.  Anticipated working hours will be about 15-30 per week.  Final hours and schedule will be determined between the intern and their manager.

Position Summary

The Hardware Engineer Intern will support the testing, validation, deployment, troubleshooting, support, and lifecycle management of store technology hardware platforms. This role will focus on Point-of-Sale (POS), self-checkout, store controller, and peripheral hardware operating across multiple environments.

The intern will partner with Hardware Engineering, Infrastructure, Software Engineering, and Field Support teams to validate hardware compatibility, troubleshoot technical issues, support deployments, and help ensure the reliable operation of business-critical retail systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support hardware validation and certification activities for Toshiba devices.
  • Assist with deployment, configuration, and testing of POS terminals, self-checkout systems, and store technology devices.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, and peripheral issues in laboratory and production environments.
  • Perform root cause analysis for hardware-related failures and system incidents.
  • Execute hardware compatibility, reliability, and performance testing for new devices and peripherals.
  • Support operating system migrations, hardware refreshes, and technology modernization initiatives.
  • Maintain technical documentation, hardware standards, and configuration records.
  • Collaborate with software, infrastructure, networking, and field support teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Analyze incident trends and recommend hardware reliability improvements.
  • Participate in the evaluation, certification, and testing of next-generation retail hardware and store technology solutions.
  • Support pilot programs, deployments, and post-implementation validation activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and identify potential root causes.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Interest in hardware, systems, technology infrastructure, or technical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule 15-30 hours per week during the internship program.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with hardware devices, computer systems, or peripheral equipment.
