How much do intern consultant jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 22, 2026, the average yearly pay for intern consultant in the United States is $54,214.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $30,500.00 and $62,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is 30 too old to get into consulting?

Intern consultants are often early in their careers, but age is not a strict barrier to entering consulting. Many firms value diverse experiences and skills, and candidates of all ages can succeed if they demonstrate relevant knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability. Experience and a strong understanding of business concepts can be more important than age when pursuing an internship or entry-level role in consulting.

Is AI going to replace consultants?

AI can automate certain tasks within consulting, such as data analysis and report generation, but it is unlikely to fully replace the role of an intern consultant. Human judgment, client interaction, and strategic thinking remain essential components of consulting work, requiring skills that AI cannot replicate fully. Intern consultants often develop critical thinking and communication skills that complement AI tools in the industry.

What are Intern Consultants?

Intern Consultants are typically students or recent graduates who work temporarily with consulting firms to gain practical experience in the consulting industry. They assist full-time consultants with research, data analysis, client presentations, and project management tasks. Intern Consultants learn about different industries, develop problem-solving skills, and gain exposure to real-world business challenges. This role is an excellent stepping stone for those considering a career in consulting, offering both hands-on experience and valuable networking opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intern Consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern Consultant, you need strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and a solid academic background, often in business, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and sometimes data analysis tools like Tableau or SQL is typically expected. Exceptional communication, teamwork, and adaptability are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively analyzing client issues, delivering impactful solutions, and collaborating within consulting teams.

What does a consultant intern do?

A consultant intern supports consulting teams by conducting research, analyzing data, preparing reports, and assisting with client projects. They gain exposure to industry practices, develop problem-solving skills, and often use tools like Excel and PowerPoint. The role typically involves learning on the job and working under the supervision of experienced consultants.

What types of projects and responsibilities can an Intern Consultant expect to work on during their internship?

As an Intern Consultant, you will typically assist with research, data analysis, and preparing client presentations. You may also participate in team meetings, contribute to brainstorming sessions, and support consultants in developing solutions for client challenges. This hands-on experience offers a broad view of consulting work and provides opportunities to learn from experienced professionals, develop your problem-solving abilities, and build your professional network within the firm.

How much do Big 4 consulting interns make?

Big 4 consulting interns typically earn between $20 and $30 per hour, with total summer stipends ranging from $4,000 to $8,000 depending on the firm and location. Compensation often includes valuable experience, networking opportunities, and exposure to consulting tools and methodologies.
