Job description

The American Dental Education Association is seeking to add an experienced Chief Learning Officer to its team of high performing professionals.

The Chief Learning Officer leads ADEA's mission to advance the quality and role of dental education to inspire all learners to serve the public, promote health, and improve care. In this role, the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) focuses on initiatives to advance competency-based dental education, interprofessional education and continuous learning across the dental education continuum, and furthers programs that support learners, educators, educational leaders, administrators and the public both nationally and globally. The position also leads ADEA's professional development and dental education unit, providing ADEA members the education, training, research, and clinical care models to succeed in the emerging academic and health care environments. By applying current, or developing new, innovations to improve the delivery of health education and by harnessing emerging technologies, the Chief Learning Officer strategically aims to improve the learning experience and sustain the development of the life-long learner. In addition to the Association's membership, the CLO also leads internal educational and professional development opportunities for ADEA Staff.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and mentor the Vice President, eLearn and all positions that report to that Vice President.
  • Supervise and mentor the Director, Leadership Programs and all positions that report to that Director.
  • Supervise and mentor the Manager, Learning Analytics
  • Oversee and manage all dental education programming (predoctoral, allied, and advanced dental education) offered through the Office of Learning.
  • Facilitate Office of Learning support with all dental education programming (predoctoral, allied, and advanced dental education) offered throughout the Association.
  • Lead the development of new innovative learning programs and learning models that meet the evolving needs of all Association members, nationally and globally.
  • Develop strategic planning for all workshops, meetings, webinars, and electronically supported educational offerings that aligns with the strategic initiatives of the Association.
  • Explore and apply new and emerging technology and educational delivery models to improve access to, and improve the experience of, the adaptive learner.
  • Build critical thinking skills in learners and support an evidence-based approach to learning, which results in identified and desired outcomes supported by appropriate assessment tools.
  • Assist the ADEA Office of Talent Management Development in developing and administering staff education, training, and development programs that foster the organizational expertise needed to maximize employee effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Manage the budget within the Office for Learning.
  • Oversee and ensure ongoing compliance with the Commission on Continuing Education Provider Recognition (CCEPR - CERP).
  • Oversee and support the ADEA Continuing Education Advisory Committee (CEAC) and report to the ADEA Board of Directors, as required.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timely management of scholarship reviews, CE verifications, and development of Trend and Outcomes Reports within the Office of Learning, including dissemination to appropriate audiences.
  • Support the ADEA Section on Academic Affairs and other groups, as assigned.
  • Manage all aspects of the Council of Deans Fellowship Program working with its faculty and fellows.
  • Support the Council of Deans Fellowship Alumni Association.
  • Oversee ADEA relationships with external vendors for leadership program development, including the Academy of Academic Leadership (AAL).
  • Work collaboratively with other office Chiefs to advance the mission, goals, and strategic framework of the organization.
  • Liaison and interact with other mission-related health care/dental organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Chief, Knowledge, Engagement and Development.
  • Fifteenor more years of cumulative experience in higher education (higher education or health professions association, or higher education academic institution) including more than five years of experience at a senior leadership level.
  • Doctoral degree in dentistry, a health professions field, higher education/adult education or related fields. Certification in continuing education, adult education, and/or curriculum design a plus.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of higher education, adult learning, educational technologies (including online learning) and related academic programs.
  • Demonstrated capacity for communication and problem solving in a complex organization.
  • Must possess previous supervisory, senior managerial and fiduciary experience.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and shifting priorities to meet tight deadlines while ensuring the project team works collaboratively to plan and execute programs efficiently and with accuracy.
  • Capable of leading as a team player, with flexibility and ability to provide guidance and hands-on input for the good of the team as necessary.
  • Ability to lead strategically and work independently with limited direction towards agreed-upon goals.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment and collaborate well with others from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to travel to external member meetings to support ADEA events, as needed, including some weekends.
  • Ability to work a hybrid work schedule. The current schedule is 4 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in the DC office and ability to work 1 day remotely (Friday). Must have the flexibility to work at ADEA's DC office as needed or when requested to facilitate departmental operations and on-site member programming.

This position's annual salary range is $205,000 to $230,000.In addition to a rewarding and purposeful mission, ADEA offers you a collaborative team environment with competitive salary and excellent benefits, including health, vision, dental and life insurance, wellness benefits, a 35-hour work week, generous paid leave and a 403(b) retirement plan with 10% employer contribution.
