Job description

Carpenter – Intermediate

Location: Piscataway, New Jersey

Employment Type: Full-Time

Pay Type: Hourly

Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing operational support in reconstruction efforts for clients. Qualified candidates must have extensive carpentry experience and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The candidate must be able to assist with scope development alongside estimators and manage projects autonomously.

An Intermediate Carpenter will also participate in the development of entry-level carpenters. Intermediate development objectives include:

  • Expanding capabilities from residential projects to commercial and multifamily projects
  • Developing the competence to lead and independently perform emergency services
  • Increasing material knowledge and proficiency in various carpentry specialties, including framing, cabinetry, trim work, and related areas

This position represents Level 3 within the Progressive Carpenter career track.

Responsibilities
  • Recognize potential project issues and request additional guidance and assistance when necessary.
  • Answer routine questions regarding the project and direct more complex questions to the appropriate resource.
  • Move and protect contents without causing damage.
  • Construct appropriate containment systems to control construction dust, dirt, and airborne contaminants.
  • Perform flood cutting, salvage and label baseboards, cabinets, doors, and related materials using approved methods and tools.
  • Attend and successfully complete shrink-wrap training and complete four projects involving shrink wrap installation.
  • Identify different types of insulation, their thicknesses, and corresponding R-values.
  • Apply knowledge related to trim work, doors, cabinetry, insulation, rough framing, acoustical ceilings, roofing materials, and exterior siding.
  • Perform daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections and maintain vehicles in clean, serviceable condition.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail.
  • Follow company standards for safeguarding customers' property.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of customer service principles and best practices.
  • Work effectively under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Work nights, weekends, and travel periodically as required.
  • Report time worked, equipment usage, and materials consumed accurately and promptly.
  • Attend company-sponsored operational and safety training programs.
Requirements
  • Ability to supervise unskilled laborers, entry-level employees, and occasional subcontractors in residential settings.
  • Ability to answer basic project-related questions and recognize when more experienced personnel should be consulted.
  • Experience maintaining equipment used during daily operations.
  • Ability to perform emergency services, including board-ups and securing buildings against additional damage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
