Job description

Schuff Steel (a subsidiary of DBM Global), the largest steel fabrication & erection company in the US, is looking to hire a Senior Accountant. This position offers high-visibility, growth opportunities, and exciting builds (previous clients include Apple, University of Phoenix Stadium, and Facebook).

Critical to the needs of our Accounting Department, the Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring transactions are posted timely and accurately to the company's general ledger including maintaining proper internal controls and procedures as well as assisting with financial reporting and audit requirements as needed. Core Deliverables
  • Prepare and post journal entries into the general ledger
  • Lease accounting (ASC 842) including entering/reviewing leases in lease software, preparing/reviewing monthly lease entries, reconciling all lease-related balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Compile and analyze information for cost allocations
  • Responsibility for the intercompany accounting process including ensuring efficiency of transactions and accurate posting
  • Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy of financial statements
  • Support team on month-end close procedures as necessary to ensure accounting records are closed on time
  • Act as a liaison to internal and external auditors by explaining rationale for journal entries and financial transactions including answering questions necessary to complete the audit timely
  • Complete various financial and accounting reports to support financial reporting and budgeting
  • Participate in special projects to drive process improvements to improve accounting efficiencies and support the business
  • Detailed review of certain Accounts Payable Invoices.
  • Inventory Reconciliation and Project Cost Allocation
  • Working with Operations on Overhead G&A Budget Reviews

Education/Training
Bachelor's Degree from an AACSB accredited college or university in accounting.
Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years' experience in general ledger accounting, public accounting experience a plus.
Specialized Knowledge
As outlined in the Core Competencies, an individual must have thorough knowledge and an advanced understanding of each competency outlined above in order to carry out the essential functions of this position. Specialized Knowledge is also required in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of GAAP. Construction percentage of completion a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of lease accounting (ASC 842)
  • In-depth cost accounting knowledge acceptable substitute.
  • Basic understanding of internal controls and segregation of duties (SOX).
  • Oracle Fusion accounting software or relevant system experience.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and execute deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Software & Technology
Position will require the frequent use and knowledge of Microsoft Office Products with an intermediate or above knowledge of Excel.
Work Environment
Position is full-time in office and will potentially require longer hours during close week given nature of accounting deadlines. This position is indoors in a climate-controlled office.
