Interim Building Principal (Pre-K to 2nd Grade, One-Year, 2026-2027) Needed


Location: Allen Brook School

Allen Brook School (ABS) is seeking an inspiring, collaborative, and student-centered educational leader to serve as Interim Building Principal for the 2026-2027 school year. The Principal provides instructional, curricular, and administrative leadership aligned with the CVSD Mission and Vision, cultivating an educational atmosphere where all Pre-K through 2nd-grade students can achieve to their fullest potential and staff function effectively toward shared goals.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of proficiency- and standards-based instruction; oversee assessment programs to inform instruction; collaborate with special education to ensure inclusive, compliant programming for all learners.

  • Oversee daily school operations, scheduling, student placement/transitions, and facility needs in compliance with state/federal laws, board policies, and collective bargaining agreements.

  • Recruit, hire, orient, supervise, and evaluate building faculty and staff; foster professional development aligned with school action plans and board goals.

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive school climate; administer a firm, fair, and consistent student code of conduct; manage emergency and safety procedures.

  • Serve as an active communicator and liaison with families, community members, district leadership, and the school board; promote positive public relations and collaborative partnerships.

  • Develop and manage the annual building budget in alignment with district goals, ensuring accurate accounting and efficient resource distribution.


The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

  • Master's Degree in School Administration or a related field, with proven success as a classroom teacher and educational leader.

  • Holds or is eligible to hold a valid Level II Vermont Professional Educator's License (Vermont Principal endorsement).

  • Demonstrated expertise in proficiency-based learning, systems-level problem solving, and collaborative team facilitation.

  • Exceptional ability to communicate courteously, effectively, and persuasively with students, staff, families, administration, and community members.

  • High adaptability, integrity, self-control, concern for others, and stress tolerance in dynamic situations.
