Sr. Engineer - Photonics Test
Job Location: On-site in San Jose, California
Ayar Labs is shattering AI data bottlenecks by moving data at the speed of light. As pioneers of co-packaged optics (CPO), we are using light instead of electricity to move data faster, further, and with a fraction of the energy needed to fuel the explosive growth of AI models.
Backed by industry giants like NVIDIA, AMD, Mediatek and Intel and manufactured in partnership with the world’s leading semiconductor ecosystem, Ayar Labs’ co-packaged optics solution is key to unleashing next-generation AI scale-up architectures.
As a Sr. Engineer in the Test Hardware group, you will be responsible for enabling high volume production testing of Ayar Labs’ next-generation SuperNOVATM light source. Responsibilities will include implementing cutting-edge optoelectronic test hardware. You will join a rapidly expanding team in a dynamic startup environment; where each member is able and expected to take on a wide range of responsibilities, and to learn and grow with the company.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Bring-up and provide hands-on support for Laser test hardware needs as defined by Produce Development, Design, and Validation Engineering teams
  • Troubleshoot Test equipment issues related to optical instrumentation, electrical components, or software
  • Analyze Test results and tool KPPs using statistical analysis to demonstrate repeatability and reproducibility of equipment and data
  • Optimize test flows, processes, and equipment to reduce Test times and enable high volume manufacturing
  • Work with Suppliers and OSATs to qualify next generation Test hardware
  • Interpret test data, create reports based on the results, and communicate observations/recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with Ayar Labs Data Engineering to ensure that test results flow smoothly into our internal database

Required Qualifications:
  • MS in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in CMOS, optoelectronic, or related device testing
  • Hands-on experience with optical test equipment, including OPMs, OSAs,
  • Hands-on experience with bench electronic equipment such as Oscilloscopes, VI meters, signal generators and analyzers
  • Experience writing and debugging software (i.e. Python) for instrument control and automation
  • Experience using statistical analysis methods (GR amp;R, SPC, and DOE) and tools (i.e. JMP) to drive technical decisions
  • Understanding of semiconductor physics, optics, and fiber optics

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience working with automated die- or wafer-level test equipment
  • Experience working in Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience with software version control, including Git tracking
Salary Range: $170,000 - $220,000
