Job description

Zurich E&S is hiring an experienced UA Manager to join our Casualty Wholesale team! This position will be located in one of the following office locations: Atlanta, GA, Scottsdale, AZ, Rocky Hill, CT or NYC.

While this position will be based out of one of these office locations, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you and the team. This role requires being in the office three days per week.

As a member of Zurich's Underwriting team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your leadership and strategic thinking skills. There will be some travel for this position to offices where the UA Associates sit.  

Responsibilities of this role include: 

  • Accountable for ensuring teams meet key operational performance goals.
  • Assess and evaluate underwriting processes in order to implement agreed technical standards, controls, practices and procedures, maintaining underwriting disciplines and identifying opportunities for improvements.
  • Follows up regularly with producers as needed to discuss status of new business, upcoming renewals, and renewals in process, and to develop appropriate action.
  • Performs customer service and account management responsibilities, as needed, which may include resolving issues related to billing, making changes to policies, and answering policy coverage related questions.
  • Participates in key account business relationships in person or teleconference with Underwriters.
  • Conducts regular performance evaluations, ensures staff are meeting performance standards based on key operational performance metrics, staffing models and growth goals of the business units supported. Regularly conducts career development conversations with staff and creates robust development plans.
  • Makes staffing decisions concerning hiring and guides staff development through identifying skills and training needs, delegating tasks appropriately, and motivating staff to provide outstanding client service.
  • Build insurance operations and underwriting skills and knowledge by participating in cross-training and learning additional processes and procedures to support multiple workflows and contribute to effectiveness of team operations.
  • Builds strong relationships across the business. Takes leadership role in Underwriting team huddles and meetings
  • Assisting to onboard and train new Underwriting Assistants and Underwriters.
  • Acts as subject matter expert for initiatives aimed at continuous improvement and operational performance.

The UA Manager will be expected to lead, motivate and develop UA Associates to deliver superior broker/customer experiences. The ability to prioritize, manage process and workflow and ensure expedited actions are taken where appropriate will be important to success in this role. This individual will be responsible for managing a team of 7-10 direct reports.

UA Manager, Zurich E&S Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Insurance, Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associate Degree and 4 or more years' experience in the Insurance, Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Insurance, Underwriting or Market Facing area
    AND
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment

 Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of operational budgets
  • Advanced knowledge of Casualty lines of business
  • Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines
  • People management or supervisory experience
  • Ability to manage and build rapport with team
  • Advanced skills in problem solving, relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiation
  • Excellent organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The proposed Salary range for this position is $75,800.00 - $124,100.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.
