What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Insurance Software Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Insurance Software Specialist, you need a solid understanding of insurance processes, software development, and business analysis, typically backed by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Familiarity with industry-specific platforms like Guidewire, Duck Creek, or Applied Epic, as well as certifications in relevant software or Agile methodologies, are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills help professionals effectively translate business requirements into technical solutions and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These competencies ensure the successful implementation, customization, and support of insurance software systems, driving operational efficiency for organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in insurance software roles?

Professionals in insurance software roles often navigate challenges such as integrating legacy systems with modern technology, ensuring data security and compliance with industry regulations, and adapting to rapidly changing customer expectations. Working closely with cross-functional teams—including underwriters, claims analysts, and IT specialists—requires strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Staying updated with emerging technologies and regulatory changes is key to success and career advancement in this field.

What is insurance software?

These tools can handle a range of tasks, including policy administration, claims processing, underwriting, billing, customer relationship management, and regulatory compliance. By automating routine processes, insurance software reduces manual errors and streamlines workflow. Many solutions also include analytics and reporting features to help insurers make data-driven decisions and improve customer service.

Job description

We are Remodel Health, the health benefits platform that revolutionizes health benefits to resource organizations with missions that matter. Our platform shifts organizations from traditional, one-size-fits-all health insurance plans to an individualized health insurance experience for each employee and their family.

We were founded on faith-based principles, and have a heart to serve all organizations, from small to large to enterprise. Historically, our core customer pipeline has consisted of churches, K-12 private schools, Christian higher education, and faith-based nonprofits. In recent years, we have grown to serve largely for-profit organizations of all sizes.

Our team is collaborative, intentional, and prioritized. We care deeply for our customers and passionately believe there is a better way for employees to receive health benefits from their organization. Learn more about who we are here!

In our stack, we use modern tools like React, Redux, Material UI, .NET Core, SQL Server and Azure and AWS. We have automated build deploy processes and value strong testing methodologies with automated tooling to help. While you may be skilled in these technologies, it's more important to have leadership tendencies and a drive to complete items with your team. You are especially good at team-building and helping people develop their careers in Software Engineering as our company grows. You thrive in a player-coach environment where you'll spend roughly 50% of your time in the code and 50% of your time leading your team and collaborating with other stakeholders.
