OVERVIEW
TAI is actively searching for an Intern, Naval Architect to join our team in New Orleans, LA. Under close supervision, the Intern, Naval Architect performs routine assignments that are clearly defined and require the application of standard design techniques, procedures and criteria. Activities are directly initiated, supervised and reviewed by more senior level specialists and engineers. ABOUT TAI ENGINEERS, LLC
TAI is a total marine solutions company that provides engineering and production support services to a wide variety of customers in the US and abroad. TAI is a wholly owned subsidiary of S&B. TAI's mission to deliver 'Solutions that Enhance Value' is the primary focus of any project that TAI undertakes. Since TAI's founding in 1993, it has brought many vessels to fruition and has more than 5,000 designs in its library. TAI is ISO 9001-2015 Certified for Design, Engineering, Integrated Logistics and Program Management Services. TAI is GSA listed to provide engineering services and vessels to the US Government and we are a prime contractor on NAVSEA's SeaPort NxG program.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No significant supervisory work required. May provide some technical guidance for design personnel.
EDUCATION
Pursuing Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in related Engineering from an accredited college or university.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Internship classification normally requires completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Engineering. Must have working knowledge of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment. Previous internship experience is preferred, but not required. Must possess the eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works closely with the Sr. Engineer/and or Naval Architect to assist and support them.
  • Perform design reviews
  • Resolve technical issues and manage information generated through the design and construction phases of multiple and concurrent projects.
  • Adhere to all company safety, environmental, quality assurance and security programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This role will collaborate within a multi-discipline team in an effort to fully develop, deliver and complete a successful project. As part of this collaborative effort, this role requires the presence of the individual working within a group setting, with regular interaction during meetings and one-on-one, face-to-face discussions with other individuals on the team on a daily basis.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise.
