Oversee retention strategies to ensure long-term staff satisfaction, engagement, and reduced turnover, including providing ongoing professional development opportunities.
Clinical Operations and Patient Care: Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality surgical care to both pediatric and adult trauma patients, leveraging the strengths of the OR, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing Services teams to improve outcomes. Stay current with clinical advancements in perioperative services, implementing evidence-based strategies and innovative technologies to enhance patient outcomes, improve performance, and integrate best practices into workflows-while establishing metrics and benchmarks to align initiatives with organizational goals for quality and safety. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize surgical schedules, patient flow, and instrument sterilization processes by integrating informatics tools to reduce bottlenecks and improve overall perioperative efficiency.
Drive performance improvements by implementing evidence-based practices and using performance data to continuously monitor and adjust staffing, workflows, and departmental processes for optimal care delivery and operational effectiveness. Maintain standardized clinical pathways that ensure a seamless, efficient, and safe patient journey for the intraoperative phase of care. Regulatory Compliance, Quality, Risk Management: Monitor clinical outcomes, identify areas for improvement, and implement quality improvement initiatives that enhance both surgical and patient care standards across departments, in conjunction with the System Directors.
Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and accreditation standards-including those set by The Joint Commission, AORN, and other regulatory agencies-by managing departmental accreditation processes, maintaining continuous readiness for inspections, and collaborating with the System Director of Nursing. Oversee risk mitigation efforts, infection control protocols, and trauma care standards to support high-quality, safe perioperative services. System Approach and Collaboration: Work closely with leaders across the healthcare system to standardize clinical workflows, care delivery, and best practices across all hospitals and facilities.
Ensure that OR, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing Services procedures align with system-wide protocols to enhance consistency and quality of care. Actively promote a culture of collaboration and shared learning across departments and facilities within the health system. Foster a unified approach to patient care, encouraging teamwork, knowledge-sharing, optimizing technology, and the adoption of best practices.
Continuous Learning: Be a team player by actively learning from peers in other hospitals and integrating insights and improvements into the department's operations. Encourage the same approach within your teams to ensure the continuous evolution of care practices and workflows. Managerial Audits and Performance Evaluation: Oversee the development and execution of regular managerial audits within the OR, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing Services departments, assessing efficiency, compliance, and clinical outcomes.
Evaluate departmental performance and ensure that key performance indicators (KPIs) related to efficiency, compliance, and patient outcomes are consistently met. Implement corrective action plans based on audit findings, working closely with both teams to address identified challenges and improve departmental performance in conjunction with the System Director of Nursing Education and Quality. Fiscal Management and Resource Allocation: Actively participate in the development and monitoring of staffing-related budgets, ensuring alignment with operational needs and high standards while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining or improving the quality of care. This could include equipment procurement, staff scheduling efficiency, and managing resource utilization. Collaborate closely with the revenue integrity finance team to ensure accurate billing and coding for surgical procedures.
Monitor documentation error work queues to ensure compliance and timely posting of charges. Hold staff accountable for maintaining accurate documentation and timely charge submission in alignment with hospital policies and compliance standards. Monitor departmental financial performance, analyzing variances between budget and actual spending, and providing recommendations for corrective actions.
Ensure that staffing levels, equipment, and materials are utilized in a cost-effective manner while maintaining high operational standards. Contribute to the development of strategies that reduce waste, optimize resource utilization, and ensure cost-effective care delivery while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Other External Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including vendors, regulatory bodies, and academic institutions, to support department operations, training, and compliance with best practices.
