Description

The Behavioral Health Nurse provides part-time nursing services supporting the psychiatric and medical needs of children, adolescents, and families receiving behavioral health services. The Nurse delivers health screening, medication-related support, care coordination, psychoeducation, and consultation to clinical teams in accordance with Georgia DBHDD standards, Medicaid requirements, and agency policies. This role emphasizes integration of physical and behavioral healthcare to improve treatment outcomes and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

Nursing and Psychiatric Support Services

  • Conduct health and behavioral health nursing screenings and document findings in the clinical record.
  • Monitor psychiatric and medical health status of individuals receiving behavioral health services, including identifying changes requiring provider notification.
  • Provide medication education to youth and caregivers regarding purpose, side effects, adherence strategies, and safety precautions as prescribed by licensed medical providers.
  • Monitor and document medication response, side effects, and adherence concerns, communicating findings to prescribing providers and treatment team members.
  • Support coordination of care between behavioral health providers, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and community medical providers.
  • Provide health-related psychoeducation to youth and caregivers, including wellness education, medication safety, and management of co-occurring medical conditions.

Clinical Team Consultation

  • Provide consultation to therapists, community support staff, and supervisors regarding health-related concerns impacting behavioral health treatment.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to support integrated care planning.
  • Assist in identifying individuals who may require psychiatric referral, medical evaluation, or higher levels of care.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Complete nursing documentation in accordance with DBHDD, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and agency standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of screenings, consultations, medication-related education, and coordination activities.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and audit readiness activities as requested.
Qualifications

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Georgia
  • Minimum 1โ€“2 years experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or integrated healthcare settings preferred
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications, behavioral health conditions, and trauma-informed care practices
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification for children and adults
  • Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) is highly preferred

Required Competencies

  • Knowledge of child and adolescent behavioral health conditions
  • Understanding of psychiatric medication classes and side-effect monitoring
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary behavioral health teams
  • Strong documentation and care coordination skills

Work Environment :

  • Position may split between Tucker, GA office and Gainesville, GA office; one primary location will be available as caseload permits
  • Contract position up to 20 hours per week
