Job Title: Part-Time Bilingual Social Media Assistant

Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Reports To: Communications Manager

Location: Remote (California)

Employment Type: Temporary, fixed-term (approximately 3 months)

Purpose:

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of California is seeking a creative, bilingual Social Media Assistant to support our growing communications presence across Instagram and Facebook. This role helps connect California families, county partners, and literacy advocates to the program's mission of inspiring a love of reading in children from birth to age five.

Working closely with the Communications Manager and State Director, the Social Media Assistant creates, schedules, and monitors bilingual content that reflects the DPIL California brand and engages Spanish-speaking audiences statewide. The ideal candidate is passionate about literacy, early childhood, and community storytelling, and can bring that passion to life in both English and Spanish.

About the Program:

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of California is a statewide early literacy initiative. Through a shared cost model established by state legislation, program funding is split between the State of California and local program partners, allowing communities to expand access while building long-term sustainability. As of 2026, the program serves more than 160,000 children across 45 counties and continues to grow, with enrollment up more than 300 percent since statewide expansion began in 2023.

Primary Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Content Creation & Publishing

  • Draft and schedule social media posts in both English and Spanish across Instagram and Facebook.
  • Assist with content creation, including graphics, captions, and short-form video support, using tools such as Canva and CapCut.
  • Pull and resize photos, graphics, and assets in accordance with DPIL California brand guidelines.

Community Engagement

  • Monitor comments, messages, and community engagement, and flag items for follow-up.
  • Assist with community management and outreach to Spanish-speaking audiences.
  • Support campaign coordination around key moments such as county launches, literacy awareness events, and partner milestones.

Reporting

  • Help track and report on basic social media metrics, including reach, engagement, and follower growth.

Foundation Responsibilities:

  • Embody, promote, and lead from The Dollywood Foundation's culture and values.
  • Lead with a security-first approach.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and excellent judgment regarding privileged information.
  • Knowledge of, understanding of, and compliance with Human Resource Policies.
  • Working knowledge of and compliance with the Document Retention and Destruction Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented, and proactive communicator who is fluent in both English and Spanish and passionate about early literacy. This individual enjoys storytelling, works well independently, and can translate program milestones into engaging content for diverse California audiences.

  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate proactively.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment regarding privileged information.

Education / Experience:

  • Interest in early childhood education, literacy, or nonprofit communications.
  • Prior social media or content creation experience preferred, including personal or volunteer work.
  • Coursework or background in communications, public relations, or marketing is a plus.

Compensation & Hours:

Approximately 20 to 25 hours per week.

$23.50 to $26.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Remote with flexible scheduling.

This is a non-exempt, hourly position. All hours worked must be recorded and submitted for manager approval each pay period. Overtime must be approved in advance.

This is a temporary, fixed-term position with an anticipated duration of approximately 3 months. Employment is at-will and may end earlier or be extended based on business needs.
