Job description

Lead Receptionist/Cashier

The City of Durango is looking for a Lead Receptionist/Cashier to help guide our front desk team at the Durango Community Recreation Center. In this part-time role, you will balance great customer service with administrative support. You'll help train and coordinate front desk staff, handle cash processes, and assist with activity registrations, all while helping our daily operations run smoothly.

The starting pay for this position is between $17.75 and $20.58 an hour, with opportunities for growth up to $24.57 per hour based on performance within the role.

What You'll Do in This Role:

  • Support and provide guidance to Cashier/Reception staff during assigned shifts, including orientation, training support, and daily coordination
  • Greet and assist visitors in person and by phone, providing information, directions, and general support
  • Oversee admissions, class registrations, facility rentals, and retail/concessions transactions, including cash handling and reconciliation
  • Monitor front desk systems, correct data entry issues, and help maintain accurate records across registration platforms
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as flyers, bulletin boards, inventory tracking, and facility support duties

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid driver's license, or the ability to obtain one
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain it upon hire
  • Experience working with the public in a customer service, reception, cashiering, or similar role

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Bring experience with modern office software, computerized cash registers, and general mathematical concepts
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with community members and your teammates
  • Stay organized while managing multiple front desk responsibilities at once
