Position Summary
The Town of Breckenridge Public Works Department is seeking reliable, safety-conscious individuals with a commitment to customer service for the role of Streets Operator - Winter Seasonal. This vital role operates heavy equipment and plow trucks to keep the Town's streets, alleys, bridges, and rights-of-way clear of snow and ice. Streets Operators also support key maintenance projects such as drainage repairs, street signage, and other critical infrastructure work that keeps Breckenridge running smoothly throughout the Winter season.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be able to work a week that may include swings and/or nights. Some on-call shifts may be required.
  • Must be able to speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public and understand highway traffic signs and signals in English.
  • Must be available and able to work through the winter seasonal period established by the Street Division, which generally extends through mid-April. All interested applicants must be available to work through this timeframe, although all work schedules, hours and dates of work are at the discretion of the Town and may be altered at any time.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment criminal background screening.
ALCOHOL AND DRUG TESTING:
  • Successful applicants must be able to perform physical, demanding work, and are required to meet the DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements, pass a pre-employment drug screen; have a clear Motor Vehicle Record, pass a drug and alcohol release from previous employers and a reference check.
  • The incumbent may also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing requirements. This position is considered safety sensitive (per DOT regulations), and operates Federal Motor Carrier vehicles on public rights-of-way as a regular function of their daily job duties.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:
  • Valid CDL with Class A or Class B required within 60 days of hire.
  • Valid DOT Physical Card required.
  • Starting wage is $29.00 per hour for candidates with a CDL.
  • Starting wage is $27.50 per hour for candidates without a CDL.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in street maintenance or related heavy equipment experience.
  • Proven ability to operate a wide variety of heavy and light trucks and specialized power equipment. Heavy equipment may include but is not limited to: front end loaders, single axle plow trucks, tandem axle haul trucks and street sweepers.
  • Applicants should be able to work well as a member of a team and be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the public.

Additional Information
Hiring Pay Range: $27.50 to $29.00 per hour.
Full Pay Range: $27.50 to $38.62 per hour.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This is generally a Full-Time Winter Seasonal position. Must be able to work a week that may include swings and/or nights. Some on-call may be required. Must be available and able to work through the winter seasonal period established by the Street Division, which generally extends from November through mid-April. All interested applicants must be available to work through this date, although all work schedules, hours and dates of work are at the discretion of the Town and may be altered at any time.
