Job Description
Finance Manager | Greater Tampa Bay area | $90,000-$110,000 + Full Benefits
This is a meaningful finance leadership opportunity at a mission-driven organization where your financial expertise will directly support the responsible stewardship of public resources and the communities they serve. As Finance Manager, you will lead day-to-day accounting and financial reporting operations, oversee audits, grant compliance, treasury, and payroll, and develop a team of finance professionals within a highly regulated environment that demands both technical rigor and genuine commitment to public service. The organization has a highly engaged, collaborative culture with frequent team events and a leadership team that values transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. The role is fully on-site for the first six months, with flexibility to transition to a hybrid schedule after 6 months. Candidates do not need a degree to be considered. Relevant experience in governmental, nonprofit, housing, or other regulated finance environments speaks louder here than credentials alone. If you bring full-cycle accounting and financial reporting experience, comfort navigating complex compliance requirements, and the leadership instincts to develop a team while staying close to the work, this role offers both purpose and professional depth in equal measure.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the organization's day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities with accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with applicable standards.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and governmental financial reporting requirements across all programs and funding sources.
- Oversee audits, internal controls, and grant compliance
- Serve as the primary financial accountability point for external reviewers and regulators.
- Lead annual budgeting and long-term financial planning processes in partnership with organizational leadership.
- Oversee treasury and payroll functions, ensuring accuracy and proper controls across both areas.
- Monitor financial performance across the portfolio, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate findings clearly to leadership.
- Partner with leaders across the organization to promote financial transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making.
- Lead, develop, and support a team of three to four finance professionals.
Requirements
- Degree not required.
- Full-cycle accounting and financial reporting experience. This role touches everything from close and reconciliations to audit support and long-range planning.
- Experience in a highly regulated environment. Industry experience in government, nonprofit, grant-funded, or housing authority background is required.
- Housing authority or public housing finance experience. Directly transferable backgrounds from other regulated industries will also be considered.
- Knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting standards (GASB); familiarity with grant and investor reporting requirements.
- Proven team leadership experience.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- The ability to translate complex financial information into clear decisions for non-finance stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and comfortable diving deep into financial reporting and portfolio-level analysis.
- Experience with property management or government-focused financial reporting software.
Why you'll love working here
- Work that carries genuine purpose. Every dollar you steward supports housing stability, community investment, and meaningful outcomes for real people.
- A highly engaged, values-driven culture with frequent team events, field days, and a leadership team that genuinely invests in its people.
- A hybrid schedule after your first six months.
- A collaborative, mission-aligned team that holds itself to high standards and supports each other in delivering on them.
- Opportunities for professional growth and leadership development within an organization committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
- Competitive salary of $90,000-$110,000 for candidates who meet the full requirements, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
