REPORTS TO:ย Human Resources Generalistย ย

DATES:ย Year-Long; with possible extensionย 

LOCATION:ย 170 N. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601ย 

POSITION SUMMARY:ย 

The Goodman Theatre is seeking a Humanย Resourcesย Apprentice for aย year-longย assignment, with a possible extension.ย ย The apprenticeย will primarily serve the administrative needs ofย a three-person team made up of the Humanย Resourcesย Generalist and the Chief Human Resources Officer. The successful candidate will assist withย day-to-dayย operations withinย severalย functionalย HRย areas suchย as recruitment,ย HRIS,ย performanceย administration etc.,ย withย specializedย focus onย learningย benefits administration.ย The Human Resources Apprenticeย will beย an excellent writer,ย highlyย organizedย andย proactive with the ability to work independently.ย ย 

RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

  • Administerย recruitment including posting positions, organizing onboarding activities, and updatingย Goodmanโ€™s organizational materialsย under the direction of the Human Resources Generalist.ย 

  • Process staffย onboardingย andย departures withinย Goodmanโ€™sย Humanย Resources Informationย Systemย (HRIS)ย in a timely and accurate manner.ย ย 

  • Administer employee benefits program; medical, dental, vision, transit, and more.ย ย 

  • Manage onboarding activities, meetings,ย andย trainingย forย newly hiredย full- and part-timeย employees.ย 

  • Maintainย data entry, databaseย managementย and other administrative tasks to support the Human Resourcesย Department,ย including staff-wide communications andย demographicย data.ย ย 

  • Assist Chief Human Resources Officer with calendar management,ย administrativeย tasksย and IDEAA initiatives.ย 

  • Processย unemployment claims, employment verification, workersโ€™ compensation claims--ย elevating to the HR Generalist when appropriate.ย 

  • Report on and reconcileย benefit invoices.ย ย 

  • Schedule ongoing meetings, such as Board IDEAA committee, Staff Committee,ย staffย parties,ย all-staffย meetings,ย etc.ย ย 

  • Act as theย initialย contact forย HR-related employee questionsย elevatingย questions to theย Human Resources Generalist or Chief Human Resources Officer when necessary.ย ย 

  • Serve as back upย forย HR Generalist when needed.ย ย 

  • Document Human Resources processes for staff and Human Resourcesย department.ย 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.ย ย 

QUALIFICATIONS &ย EXPERIENCE:ย ย 

  • At leastย aย year of experience in an office work environmentย is required.ย Some formal HR education/experience preferredย butย aย strong interest in human resourcesย required.ย 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.ย ย 

  • Detail orientedย self-starterย whoย possessesย strong interpersonal skills.ย 

  • Experience with HRIS, applicant tracking systems, and/or payroll systemsย beneficial. We currently use Paycom.ย 

  • Strong presentation skills;ย experience leading presentations preferred.ย ย 

  • Must beย deadlineย oriented withย strongย planning, organization, and follow through skills.ย ย 

  • Proficient inย Microsoftย Officeย suite.ย
